Today, in defense of his appointment of Matt Whitaker as acting AG, Trump claimed that Whitaker was approved by the Senate when he was nominated to the post of US Attorney in 2004. Then Trump went on to denigrate Mueller by stating that Mueller was appointed special counsel despite never having gone through a Senate conformation process.
Trump is either telling a MAJOR whopper or is inexcusably STUPID in not knowing that Mueller as the former head of the FBI was also confirmed by the Senate in 2001.
Which is it, a lie or colossal ignorance?

(12,606 posts)to the President, like the Attorney General, have to be, or previously have been, confirmed. People who dont report to the President, like a special counsel, dont need Senate confirmation. But we can hardly expect someone who gains all his knowledge from rwnj media to know that.

(51,543 posts)Please he can't just be appointed acting AG. There is an statutorily prescribed line of succession when an AG departs, namely the next in command (Rosenstein), not some arbitrary hack.
