Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert: We Must Protect Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Hours after Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized after breaking three ribs in a fall, late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert pledged to get the liberal-leaning 85-year-old back on her feet.

“Well wishes are in order tonight for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is recovering from three broken ribs,” the former comedian said in his Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologue. “You see, this is what happens when you skateboard without a chest pad! You have to be careful … For obvious reasons, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is someone we need to protect at any cost. We need her to keep going for another, maybe, 80 years.”

Kimmel unveiled the “Ruth Bader Gins-Bubble,” a giant plastic bubble with a Ginsburg lookalike inside. “We’re sending this to Washington to protect Justice Ginsburg from injuries, from criminals, from bears – this thing is actually grizzly bear-proof,” he cracked. “Even if a strong gust of wind were to blow Justice Ginsburg into a river, she would be able to float and move like a hamster…We are gonna have to figure out the bathroom situation.”

Colbert took his efforts further – offering to open a “Rib-Starter” crowdsourcing campaign and donate his own ribs. “She can take mine,” he said. “Someone get me a pair of pliers and a bite stick.”

“What was she doing walking around an office?” the host asked of Ginsburg, the subject of the recent documentary RBG. “She’s far too precious. Forget a black robe – she should be dressed in bubble wrap and carried down the hallway like a Fabergé egg.”
