what would donnie have to say for the media to report "that was a gaffe"?

the guy routinely insults individual americans and whole groups of americans.

he insults entire nations and people from those nations.

he insults democrats, he insults republicans.

every once in a while, he says something nice. he struggles, it's insincere, usually scripted, but sometimes he says something nice.

nothing he says is *ever* called a "gaffe".

yet if any democrat said anything remotely like this sort of thing, their career would be over. the media would crucify them. hell, a decade or so ago, if any *republican* said some of this stuff their career would be over, too.

is there *anything* he could say that would cause the media to call it a "gaffe". the only thing the media has ever come remotely close to treating it as a gaffe was the access hollywood tape, and i don't think they ever used the word "gaffe". just "locker room talk" or maybe unfortunate or embarrassing. and to some extent he was given a pass because he didn't know he was being recorded. but he's said horrible things knowing full well he was being recorded or broadcast.

but they never call it a gaffe.

tell me again we don't have a right-wing bias in the media....

1. Well, applying the media's "gaffe rule" as they applied it to Biden...

Half the times when they said Biden made a gaffe, he was simply telling the truth, but they didn't expect the truth so they called it a gaffe.

Ergo, if Trump ever tells the truth about something, the MSM should call it a gaffe. But then, given their history, the MSM swooners will swoon and say, "Oh, he's become so presidential," just like they did when he managed to read from a teleprompter for 30 seconds without digressing to praise Nazis and the Klan.

if he makes a bigoted statement, he's rallying the base or being a populist.

if he actually says something nice about a minority, he's reaching out or being presidential or showing up his critics who think he's a bigot, or whatever.

4. It's any time someone says something they shouldn't have

Sometimes it's an embarrassing truth, but sometimes it's an offensive statement.

Saying something racially insensitive, for instance.

And sometimes it's just asking for fancy mustard. Ooh look he's an out of touch elitist!

But Donnie? Non stop gaffe machine, but they never ever call it that. Not once.

5. For Trump to commit a gaffe, he'd have to suffer consequences

And the media don't hold him to any standards, so he can't commit a gaffe. Oh, every now and then, someone like David Gregory will say that whatever outrage Trump just committed would seriously damage any other elected official. But damn if Gregory can figure out why Trump is never hurt by his shenanigans. There's just no way to tell why the media don't hold Trump responsible!
