"How dare you: Surgeons respond to NRAs complaint about "self-important doctors"
By Rex Santus Nov 9, 2018
Talk about bad timing. The day before yet another mass shooting killed 12 at a bar in California, the NRA tweeted out a rebuke of doctors who treat gun violence. And those doctors are pissed.
Surgeons sometimes conduct research on the effects of gun violence, and the NRA was upset they dont consult outside groups, like perhaps the NRA, before publishing.
After the shooting, surgeons who operate on people wounded by guns promptly chimed in to let the NRA know just who exactly needed to stay in their lane.

(12,904 posts)What are they upset about?
Just seems a very odd, but important (to them) statement.

(7,831 posts)blame the parents who sent their children to school not the animal who walked into an elementary school with a legally obtained AK 47...blame the kids who went to a country music venue not the deranged sniper sitting in a hotel room with multiple rifles, bump stock, ammo... never the NRA

(12,904 posts)Im not sure that I understand why, exactly; but, I can see the reasoning. Like, if the physicians consulted the NRA prior to the statement, the NRA could tailor a response more quickly.
It just seems odd, to me, that they would be so upset, that they would put that part in their tweet. Twitter doesnt allow much room for pontification, so why would they deem that consulting statement important enough to use up their precious character space?
I will never understand that organization.

(29,699 posts)not so that they could counter. They won't let CDC study the reasons for gun violence either.

(13,877 posts)The rest are the Democrat's fault...specifically HRC.
Every gun humper and the Congressional Violence Caucus (i.e. bipartisan, all guns, all the time) should have to watch at least 2 hours of the results of their AR Madness. I'll give 'em huntin' guns...even that offends me. As they say,i t's not a sport if only one party knows the rules. But that is too civilized for most of these cretins to understand.
Put differently, if it takes an AR-15 to hunt, go to a shooting range and practice. If you're hungry and can't afford food, go to a food bank.

(3,622 posts)Do they consult with doctors before taking a position on guns, ammunition or guns in the hands of psychologically disturbed or mentally incompetent individuals?
I'm in favor of preserving rights granted under the Constitution but with rights come responsibilities.

I'd send it to my Congress-critter, but she's a worthless Tea-Partyer who can barely read, let alone comprehend.

(6 posts)Here is a thought/ question....What kills people? Hmmm....guns! Nope, bullets do. I believe banning the production, sale, and distribution of bullets would certainly curtail this abomination.

Now it has become an industry owned shill for the sale of more guns and the enrichment of its leaders.

(5,275 posts)They began as a mature publication aimed at hunters. Then they changed into an organization shamelessly pushing gun sales and ignoring the increasing carnage.
They disgust me and the sooner they go away the better.
