OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (AP) — A hospital in Tennessee has fired a worker who was photographed wearing a racist shirt while voting in Mississippi.

News outlets report that Regional One Health in Memphis says its investigation into the image shared online led to the man being fired. A picture of the man shows him at a polling place wearing a shirt that has a Confederate flag with a noose in the center and the words “Mississippi Justice.”

The hospital’s statement didn’t identify the man, but he has been identified online as a registered nurse, Clayton John Hickey.

Hickey is a former Memphis police officer who resigned in 2010 when found with a 17-year-old girl and open containers of alcohol in his car. News outlets say attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.

Being a disgraced law enforcement officer?
Hopefully the Tennessee Board of Nursing will investigate to make sure that this information was disclosed upon licensure.

It seems he wasn't fired, either, it says he resigned. So when he was asked on his license application whether he'd ever been arrested, or if he'd been fired from his police position, he could honestly say No.

If you are arrested for any reason you have to disclose. If he was pulled over for open containers with an underage driver, he should have been arrested.
The Boards are generally very stringent on anything that applies to moral turpitude. At the very least, this should have been disclosed. The Board can overlook it and license you anyway, but it has to be disclosed.

As usual, the criminal police officer was not treated the same way anyone else would be in similar circumstances.

I understand he lives in a suburb of Memphis located in Mississippi.

If his getting fired hurts, I can think of something he can do with that noose...

Which means you can use a Tennessee license to practice in Mississippi and vice versa

His supporters (no one here) will claim that his Constitutional right to freedom of speech has been violated. Of course, they'll make it perfectly clear that they really don't understand what 'freedom of speech' means.

Then, someone will explain that the image on the t-shirt isn't really racist. They'll explain that an image of a noose super-imposed over a confederate flag actually stands for pride or heritage or some other such nonsense. It will turn out that the goof wearing the t-shirt is really a swell guy that doesn't have a racist bone in his body. Heck, he probably even has a black friend.

And then, last, but certainly not least, it will turn out that he really didn't mean to offend anyone, and that he's very sorry that he did.
