OK, the 2018 votes have been cast. NOW I don't mind arguing about possible 2020 candidates

I also picked a new neutral avatar because at this stage I am open to a number of possible Democratic nominees for President in 2020, (and of course I will support whoever wins the actual nomination.)

I tried to stay true to my word and for the most part stayed out of extended debates akin to re-fighting the last primaries before the midterms that, IMO, mostly served to divide us when we really needed unity. I checked, I posted well over 100 OP's in the last year and none of them championed or bashed a past or future Democratic candidate for President. That likely won't be true of the next 100.

I want to acknowledge DUers who hold strong pro or con opinions about any past or future candidates for President on our side, who chose not to make those feelings a central theme of their posting here while we needed to stay focused on winning the 2018 election.

We did it. Our Blue Wave was powerful, and very very real. Next we retake the White House and Senate.

No Green Party candidates that will be allowed to help Republicans steal
Now looking at Trump and Florida for 2016 ..he won by 1% so as I said then and to see what is happening now and remember Scott was Governor ..I believe there was voter fraud and Hillary did not get all of her votes counted there

And if you saw one thing in 2018...Democrats were united..we fought for the votes and are still fighting.

Let the 2020 debate begin.

I like Harris, Klobuchar, Kennedy, Castro, Landrieu, Schiff, Booker, Brown, Warren—we have a very deep bench.

Have to add Tom Steyer to this list. Just saw him on CNN where he went after trump by listing his outrageous and embarrassing incompetencies all the way down the line.

It would be Cory Booker.

My judgment as a political scientist says Joe Biden is by far our strongest foil to Donald Trump and that he'd secure the electoral college win. I want to win and love Joe. So it is easy to be pragmatic and support a Democrat that I deeply respect.

So at this point:

Biden/Booker.

Perhaps Biden/Harris if her campaign takes fire.

Perhaps Biden/??? if some other younger candidate emerges.

Biden's age, Hill-Thomas hearings past and penchant for gaffes are reason enough to not want him to run.

No one is a standout for me. Many of the names from the old guard and new guard have strengths but also weaknesses.

I look forward to seeing how the candidates define themselves for the National stage.

Race and gender aside, I think we should nominate a candidate who SPEAKS POWERFULLY, like Biden and Booker; others may suggest others.
