We can see and smell it. The sun is dimmed. It's hard to breathe, for me anyway.

that the smoke hasn’t reached the Inland Empire yet. The skies are the clearest I’ve seen in months this morning.

10. If you read your hard boiled Raymond Chandler, you'll NEVER forget which way the wind blows

Arguably the best opening paragraph in hard boiled detective fiction, bar none.

"There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge."
― Raymond Chandler, Red Wind: A Collection of Short Stories

Interesting, my father, a native Southern Californian called the wind 'Santana'.

I have a lot of guest coming from Calif so I like to keep updated on this stuff. Thank you. I had it very wrong. Between the fast moving fires and not having time on the net, I was not getting the info. I appreciate this.
