There appears to be less than 200,000 ballots left and with most of them in Maricopa county there is no realistic path forward for McSally. There are 162,000 ballots left in Maricopa which has gone for Sinema by 4%. The next largest areas are Tucson and Flagstaff that went to Sinema by even bigger percentages.
Sinema is going to win the seat and she is going to be outside the number needed for a recall.
All of AZ Vote Recorders offices have live feeds so you can watch them doing their work
You can see that here:
https://azsos.gov/elections
Here is the link for Maricopa where more than half of the votes are counted.
Its kind of neat and totally boring at the same time.
Here is the Secretary of State's Election result page:
https://results.arizona.vote/#/featured/4/0
at 5:00 the numbers are
Kyrsten Sinema 1,068,129 up 32640
Martha McSally 1,035,489
162,000 Ballots left in Maricopa, unknown number in other counties, maybe 30,000. Little chance that McSally will be able to get the lead back because she would have to get in excess of 60% of the vote in a shrinking pool.
The Recorders of each county are going through "Late Early Mail in Votes", namely mail in ballots that people walked in to make sure that they would be counted. Their is no postmark deadline in AZ they must physically arrive at the Recorder's Office by 7 pm on Election Day
AZ voters can check their ballot stat us here:
https://voter.azsos.gov/VoterView/AbsenteeBallotSearch.do
Edited to add that Republicans and Democrats compromised on the Republican lawsuit so that rural counties would adopt the same time frame as Pima and Maricopa counties which take about 5 days to contact voters where a signature issue seems to be the issue.

(53,061 posts)so the Dems get slaughtered during the midterm.
Trump won only 3% here and didn't break 50%.
We have 9 Congressional seats and 5 are firmly in Democratic hands.
If Mark Kelly runs for Senate in 2 years we will have 2 Democratic Senators
Arizona is a lot bluer than people think with Phoenix and Tucson heavily dominated by the Democratic Party.

I don't know how that is done

(7,813 posts)I was wondering who could be a strong candidate that could win McCain's old seat for the Democrats -- Mark Kelly would be a great option! Is he seriously thinking about running? I hope so!

(53,061 posts)They have never said never.
After Flake announced he was not going to run again they gave an interview and said that Mark would not run "this time" which paved the way for Sinema to clear the field with the Mark and Gabby's endorsement.
It was clear that they were signalling that they might be open to taking a run at McCain's seat.
Interestingly Mark said that he would consider it and Gabby said that she would also consider running which everyone took as her signalling that she would back Mark if he ran.
At both the Phoenix and Tucson watch parties there was an obvious and major statement of congratulations given to Mark and Gabby. Ann Kirkpatrick won the primary for McSally's seat on the endorsement of Gabby, they hold, as you might expect super star status among Tucson Democrats.
I can't find the clip I refer to but remember it almost verbatim.

(26,035 posts)Yes, I know he can't*, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him try, and then declare Democratic-perpetrated voter fraud when he fails.
*unless, of course, the Supreme Court rules that it's within his powers as "unitary executive" to do so...

(3,706 posts)leading up to the election you suggested to a reporter who asked you about healthcare that the public would rather talk about the caravan than healthcare.
Nearly a week after the election, nobody has said boo about the caravan. They are still talking about healthcare.

(10,787 posts)She was an activist and social worker, had a show on the local Air America, and got into an on-air fight with Ed Schultz after he reported some conspiracy theory about Katrina survivors in Phoenix.
I've loved her since then, she was my state rep, then my national rep, and now probably my senator.
She's definitely tacked to the right since going national, but I think that's been more a survivor's tactic than an actual ideological shift - she pretty much only broke with party when she had cover.

Her negatives were extremely high
Sinema ran a sensible campaign but McSally was just terrible including telling one reporter to stop asking about the Affordable Care Act and ask her a question on the Caravan.
The caravan nonsense works better in Iowa than it does for people who live next to the border and know that it is an extremely complex issue.

(1,693 posts)in 2020. We are spending too vast of resources in places that are getting older and whiter and not getting any results. We need to look west and south for the future in 2020. AZ and GA should be a battleground states along with WI, PA, NC, FL, etc. I'm on the fence about Iowa though. However, Ohio is the new Missouri. We need to stop pouring millions into that state at the expense of other states.
I don't know about Texas quite yet. We might be another cycle away, but I would pour money in Texas before Ohio at this point.
Awsi Dooger
(14,565 posts)It joins narrowly in a blow out win while those other states are more available in tight races
Iowa is indeed a dilemma. More rescue potential than Ohio but not favorable demographics.
North Carolina needs to be top of second tier and not among first tier. North Carolina is another piling on state.
