Red states could turn blue in 2020, says Dem data group CEO

Flippable founder and CEO Catherine Vaughan said in an interview that aired Monday on "Rising" that traditionally red states could turn blue in the 2020 presidential election.

"There are a lot of states where we made incredible progress on Tuesday, and we just need to keep that momentum going," Vaughan told Hill.TV's Krystal Ball on Friday. Flippable is a data company aimed at flipping Republican states and districts in elections.

"Pennsylvania is one state I mentioned, you know, a perennial swing state, a really important state in the 2020 elections," she continued. "Florida, we still need to keep going. There's still a chance that the votes will come in for [Andrew] Gillum, and that could be a gamechanger," she said, referring to the Democratic nominee in the state's U.S. Senate race. "With so many voting rights restored in Florida, the landscape is going to change by a large margin."

"States like Michigan, where we were able to flip a ton of seats on Tuesday, and that was also a really decisive state," she said.

"I think that even states like Texas and Arizona, which for a long time have been seen as Republican territory, we're making huge progress there. Beto [O'Rourke] came within 1.5 points. Kyrsten Sinema's in the lead right now. These states, they're turning, and I think they could turn more in 2020," she said, referring to the Democratic nominees in Senate races in Texas and Arizona, respectively.

I think Cordray was ahead in most of the polls leading into the election, like Hubbel in Iowa.

Of course, turnout is key. However, I'm guessing Republicans will double down in their cheating after Tuesday's Democratic wins. We need to be realistic about who we are dealing with.

OFFS. PENNYSLVANIA IS NOT A "RED STATE".

Democratic registrations have ALWAYS been far exceeding GOP registrations here (currently +800,000 and at one time, >+1,000,000). Part of the problem, which is an issue with MANY states, is the DYSFUNCTION / NON-EXISTENCE OF THE STATE PARTIES.

Then the Tea Party movement happened and wiped us out in both places, perhaps for a long time to come.

In contrast, New Mexico, Virginia, Colorado, and Nevada look like they're holding as blue states, in fact they're continually getting bluer.

Arizona will be the next to fall in our column before Texas or any of the other "run up the score" states. Obama came closer there than most Dems had in years, and in 2016 I really thought Hillary had a chance to pick it off before the Comey letter happened. Now we're seeing they're likely to get a democratic Senator. I think it's setting the stage for a sea change there.

But the best strategy for Dems right now is to hold the four states I mentioned and take back Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan like we did this time in the midterms.
