"Come on in, the water's warm." Min. Leader Pelosi to others wanting to be Speaker.

“Come on in, the water’s warm.”

— Rep. Nancy Pelosi, quoted by the Wall Street Journal, encouraging other members to challenge her for speaker.

Bottom line for me is that I trust Pelosi.

Is this the time we should be carrying out a generational transition to new leadership?

Absolutely and former Speaker Pelosi knows that. I trust that she will get things started for January 3rd.

She will take the brunt of the criticism and provide an umbrella for committee chairpersons to pursue their work.

She will nurture the greatest weapon we have: Caucus solidarity

And she will start laying the foundations for a transition so that the next election we will have a new face to lead the House.

She just froze her competitors out of even running in the Caucus and now she will turn her attention to freezing out the Republicans and isolating Donald Trump.

2. I fully expect her to delegate responsibility and authority to some younger members

I would like to see some as key lieutenants on committees, assigned to special committees, become whips and spokespeople for various bills. Pelosi will be a great speaker. Plus she will enjoy mentoring younger members and giving them opportunities to rise and shine.

Me.

I know at least several 60-somethingish professional people who can't get work in their fields due to competition with young people. I know at least 3 of them who were fired by managers old enough to be their children.

It's about stingy companies not wanting to pay fairly. Welcome to unbridled capitalism and the god-almighty bottom line dollar.
