Here's an interesting thought on the Senate elections this year....

republicans are "crowing" because they won seats, but hold on! Right now it's 47-51, with two seats still open.

In Florida Nelson and Scott are neck and neck, if Scott doesn't steal it Nelson could hold on - 48-51.

There's a runoff in Mississippi between the republican (Hyde-Smith with 41.5%) and the Democrat (Espy with 40.6%) With the two also-rans out, more than 150K votes are up for grabs. Espy could quite possibly win - 49-51.

Net? NO CHANGE!

So we gain more than 30 seats in the House, possibly no change in the Senate, at least 7 Governorships gained, and about 350 seats in state legislatures (7 gained houses)

This could be much "huger" than many think!

3. It is a runoff (they have bizarre rules in Mississippi and Louisiana), it'll be held on Nov 27.....

The two runoff candidates are 0.9% apart, it could very likely go to the Democrat, especially since the racial gaffe by Hyde-Smith.

As close as it was, the republican out-spent the Democrat by almost 3-1. I'm sure the DNC will be all over this one.

Virtually all the votes that didn't go to the top 2 candidates went to the other republican in the race. Together they shouldn't split 57% of the vote.

Turnout might be very different for a runoff, so things could change our way, but it's very unlikely.

More and more people are warming up to the notion of a successful impeachment of Trump.

9. Eh, but a mix of 41.5% red + 40.6 blue does not result in red.

(Edit: even if the remaining 17.9% were reddish. )

to the needs of the citizens of Miss. rather than delivering them Trump's head on a platter.

with the same broad brush if the Dems talk it up. What's the rush? Nothing can get done until 2019.

6. Democrats need to look at ways to pick off a couple of Republican senators:

Can any be indicted for crimes? State AGs may want to start looking at this, too.

If indicted they can be removed off committees and if convicted, potentially, removed from office or office left essentially vacant if a senator is in prison.

Might any Repub be persuaded to leave the GOP? Lisa Murkowski maybe?

Or perhaps an aging and ailing Rep might decide to retire early. Or take a cabinet appointment, what happens then? Does a Gov. appoint or would there be a special election?

If Dems are only down 1 or 2 seats there are ways this could change before the next election, as it surely needs to, to protect our courts.
