On the surface, things are going well in America. The unemployment rate at 3.7 percent is at its lowest level in decades. Annual wage growth recently hit a nine-year high. And the latest figures from the Commerce Department show that the U.S. economy continues to grow.
But that doesnt mean all Americans are doing well. In fact, GOBankingRates found that its gotten tougher for many people to afford basic necessities. We examined the cost of living throughout the U.S. over the past few years to see how much it has increased. Then, we surveyed Americans to find out how much theyre spending on necessities. The average spending of respondents in each state was then compared with the median income in each state to determine whether people can realistically afford the cost of living where they are.

(4,407 posts)Ahead of the investigations and everything else. If the Democrats don't at least try to do everything they can about this, the Americans will elect leaders based on either the same or another's populist promises.

(6,110 posts)I watch lot of shows dealing with refurbishing homes, and can't believe how high prices are for just average homes. $800,000 to $Million for a 3 bed room average looking house! Between mortgage payments and property taxes, if those buyers ever lose jobs we will get another housing crash.

(18,868 posts)Electric rates all gave gone way up. Water has become gold. I don't know how much has gone up yet because I just turned on the furnace.
Insurance rates are all up.
Decent food is up.
