FAA denies report on new probe of Boeing's safety analyses on 737 MAX

(Reuters) - The U.S. aviation regulator denied on Tuesday a report that it had launched a new probe of the safety analyses performed over the years by Boeing Co (BA.N) on its 737 MAX models, following the crash of a Lion Air jet in Indonesia last month.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was reviewing details surrounding the safety data and conclusions the company previously provided to it as part of certifying 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 models.

“The FAA is not doing a safety probe separate from the ongoing Lion Air accident investigation of which we, the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) and Indonesian officials are a part,” the agency said in an emailed statement.

“As we have previously said, we have issued an (airworthiness directive) and will continue to take appropriate action based on what we learn from the investigation. This has not changed,” the FAA said.

when is this thing going to get off the ground with its huge flaps extended and the long runway rides. Especially, taking off in Juneau into the bowl of mountains at the east end of runway I would pull up on the armrests to help it off the ground.

I was thrilled on my first Boeing 737 flights, because that plane would seem to jump up off the runway when I assume the rotate command is given in the cockpit. The early 737s climbed fast I think they were 737-100s and/or 737-200s.

Now when I fly these new stretch 737-800s they seem to take quite a bit more time to get off the runway, and they don't jump off the runway like the earlier 737 models. I find myself pulling on the armrests again. to pull it up. The 737-800s are not as slow as the 727 was getting off the runway, but I wonder if Boeing keeps making the Model 737 payload heavier and heavier during each model introduction (737-700, 737-800, 737-900) to the point that if some sort of power emergency or steering emergency happens, the damn thing doesn't have enough reserve power to "power" out of the problem, and get airborne.
