Pelosi sought to push back Wednesday on another Democrats prediction that she would fall short in her bid to become speaker next year.
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.), a leader of the anti-Pelosi faction, is advancing the idea that Pelosi cannot round up enough support.
Im a busy person, but I will be the speaker of the House no matter what he said, Pelosi told reporters in response.
Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colo.), a leading opponent of Pelosis bid for House speakership, said Wednesday that the now-minority leader could possibly be elected speaker if other changes are made in the ranks of Democratic leadership.

Talking to reporters, Rep. Tim Ryan forcefully argued incoming freshmen could face political peril if they go back on their promise to oppose Pelosi. We cant do this to them. This is unfair. They will lose their seats, Ryan said. They will be done.

(58,785 posts)even though he's never held a leadership position in his 7 terms/16 years in congress. Never too late to start at the top?
Ryan was one of the anti-abortion Democrats who initially balked at ObamaCare over concerns that federal subsidies could underwrite insurance plans that offered abortion coverage, joining the 64 Democrats who voted in favor of the so-called Stupak amendment, which was designed to prevent any taxpayer dollars from funding those services.
Liberal Democrats and women's health groups howled,... Ryan has since reversed course. ...
He's stuck to that vow. .. It remains to be seen if his previous record will alienate fellow Democrats in the liberal-heavy caucus as he chases a longshot bid against Pelosi, whose support for abortion rights spans her career.

Or maybe he just wants Paul to keep the gavel.

Something tells me you're a guy.

(39,369 posts)Hes saying Pelosi can have the gavel but the top ranks have to evolve. Got a problem with that?

(58,785 posts)has been in the house 11 years, every campaign funded by big business. Not an important achiever in the house. Is there even one issue you care about that you feel would be better protected and advanced by him?
Especially since it now turns out he's just angling for a deal and will turn on the Never Nancys?

(39,369 posts)That will soon be clear to everyone. You cant say youre the only one capable of doing the job and keep the door closed on a succession process. I dont know why any thinking Democrat would be on board with that.

(35,454 posts)and let the caucus make the decisions, you know the people who voted to put them into the leadership in the first place. I also believe these attempts at disruption and what I'm calling blackmail will backfire big time. In less than 2 months we'll see.

(46,166 posts)He's our Rep in the House. So I sent him an email letting him know that we'll be withdrawing our monthly support to him unless he supports her. I don't really think he'll give a crap. But I can't support him if he holds fast to his current position.

(23,943 posts)no need for the goddam conspiratorial garbage-slinging festival this has become.
there are other senior members i wouldn't mind having the speakership, like Rep. Lewis or Rep. Waters, people who would be well known and probably do a quality job. go ahead and nominate them, Seth and Ed, if you think they want the job.
hell, i've heard that the speaker doesn't even need to be an elected member of the house. nominate Mrs. Clinton if you think that will work out.
but support someone.
"someone else" is NOT a real option as-is, and lingering over it is just stupid as all hell for what should, by now, be obvious reasons.

I DO think Nancy should shake up the leadership, but none of this bunch should be anywhere near leadership.
