(36,387 posts)He mostly flew under my radar until he splashed in DC. I knew of him, but nothing really registered. Right now, he's exactly where he needs to be, and ALL of California supports him.

(30,717 posts)of a non-flashy Congressman who did a lot of good work for everyone, not just members of his party.
We need to vote for more of Waxman's type of politician. Screw all these people who need to be inspired by a political rock star before they will vote.

(6,544 posts)when he left. It is great to know that Ted Lieu is carrying on his tradition of great work. I only wish that Ted would have been born in the USA so that he could run for president.

(9,533 posts)It's not such a huge long shot, though probability is still on Hunter's side.
It all depends where those late-votes are from, but i'm guessing they're more urban/liberal areas. The rural voters don't wait 'til the last minute to take ballots to the polls; many of them vote by mail all the time as they don't live close to polling places. And Dems had a late surge of registrations now that we have same-day registration in CA. Also, to do the same-day registration you had to actually go to the Registrar's office which is in San Diego, an hour or two drive from the rural areas, so probably most of the same-day registrations were Democrats.

(58,605 posts)but if he was, thanks and kudos to Ted. That is one of those seats that has never sent a Dem to congress.
FYI, I live in the neighboring district, so I got all the ads and whatnot. I think Kim Schrier will be a big asset to the caucus. She's a pediatrician, so she should be a big help on all the medical issues.

(20,568 posts)Rossi really spent big on ads, especially at the end. They were so misleading - like state income tax.
Love Ted Lieu and glad for his help whatever it was!

(9,088 posts)So much energy. So many debates to thin out a large field. The MVP was Laura Oatman who withdrew after the first 4 or so debates and endorsed the strongest candidate Harley Rouda. And then became part of his team. Several other candidates were very good. Only two weaklings. But with our jungle primary we were on pins and needles. Laura would email personal messages to keep you engaged and volunteers were joyous.
My fear was that there would be a hack attack. Rouda is pulling away now, nearly 13,000 votes up and climbing. Harley signs were everywhere. Smart move to be identified by his first name. He is affable and bright. His concern for climate change is the polar opposite of Rohrabacher. It's a brand new day in the CA 48th and in Costa Mesa, whose Dems campaigned with Rouda and won 4 out of 6 council seats, gaining a super majority and a Dem mayor - deep in the heart of Orange County.

(7,220 posts)If (smiling dreamily) Rump AND Pence were outed at the same time, the House Speaker succeeds to become POTUS. I don't know what happens if that person is ineligible because s/he wasn't born in the US.
It's a very unlikely scenario, but I wouldn't want us to be caught with our Pence down.

(13,877 posts)Gallows humor, sorry.
Just no good answers there. He looks as if he's going to croak any minute...but the glory, the outstanding medical care, and the short hours they work is likely to keep him around forever.
OTOH, Congressman Lieu has a long and most likely distinguished career ahead of him. Perhaps not Speaker at this time. I'm so encouraged by he and Conor Lamb and Beto O'Rourke and AOC (love that she's so well-known just by her initials) representing major states...et al and that Nancy has vowed to give Committee Chairmanships to Progressives. She needs them in her corner, too. They have carved out post-Bernie, a true surge of Young Progressives that actually looks like contemporary America. He may end up more powerful and politically influential in the Senior Advisor/recruiting and support role.
