General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSorry but the Michael Avenatti story doesn't pass the smell test.
Something isn't adding up. I don't think Avenatti would deny like he has if there was a sliver of truth to this story. He'd use weasel words like, "it's being taken out of context..." or "the situation is misconstrued".
Maybe I'm wrong and maybe he did it. If he did, it'll come out and he'll be gone as he should be but I don't trust the right-wing and their tricksters. I don't trust that the initial story said his wife - I don't like that Jacob Wohl is claiming credit for it. I don't like any of this one bit.
But I guess we'll see.

(58,785 posts)department verified the arrest and charge. But whatever happened, this is a stupid domestic dispute, and of course those are heavily he said/she said. No one but those involved knows anything about it.
Fwiw, my notion is that this is a private matter, not a public event, and no business of mine.

(28,926 posts)If he didn't do anything they get to say over and over and over "Believe the woman". I think that is all this was about. If it's fake they still get to gloat and claim "See, we told you, you can't always believe the woman."
It doesn't matter that they actually broke the law and went WAAAAAAAA out of their way to prove their point, they get to claim he is a hypocrite no matter what the outcome. This is so immoral it's ridiculous but they will relish it even if he didn't do anything and is proven 100% innocent.

(28,926 posts)attacking Trump and Kavanaugh for their treatment of women. Avenatti is the perfect target for them. They win to an extent, even if they lose. However, if this is proven to be a hit job it will end up backfiring on them. Breaking the law is no laughing matter and this won't be a joke anymore.

(13,488 posts)His ex wives seems to say it wasn't them. I'm curious what TMZ will say today about who/what happened... Since they seem to be the first reporters.
If this is a hit job from Jacob Fucking Wohl, then he should be arrested, charged with false conspiracies, etc. That kid sucks so badly.

We can confirm that Michael Avenatti (DOB: 02-16-71) was booked this afternoon on a felony domestic violence charge (273.5 PC). His bail is set at $50,000.

(31,964 posts)Read their tweets. You do know, don't you, the police do not make arrests, especially felonies, based on a someone's complaint?

(92,115 posts)is evidence of a crime, they will arrest that person and charge them with that crime, and from the sketchy reports that have come out so far, that is what has occurred. That doesn't mean the charges are valid, and the complaint is bogus
former9thward
(31,964 posts)they can prove them beyond a reasonable doubt. The police do not file charges just because someone made a complaint. If that is your understanding it is incorrect. People were cheerleading when Avanetti was a bully in public. It has been my experience that people who are bullies in public are also bullies in private.

(92,115 posts)filed charges against him for domestic abuse.
Are the charges valid or not, I don't know, but I also know that prosecutors have been known to file bogus charges in the past

(14,951 posts)the enemy of your enemy is NOT your friend (on that basis alone anyhow) and ought not be treated like a hero or savior unless they earn those monikers apart from your co-incident enmities.
This lesson is especially relevant now with the big House losses we'll be seeing a new batch of anti-Trump GOP sh*tbirds squawking and crapping all over TV, radio, and in print. It is a big mistake to become so pleased that GOPers are turning on Trump that we forget they f*cking GOPers who would burn down everything Democrats hold dear the second they have the chance to do it. They are not our friends, they are not trustworthy, they cannot be worked with in good faith -- they just happen to be sick of Trump too. We can work with that as far as it goes, but let's not misunderstand how far it goes.
As for Wohl, it reminds me a bit of how ISIS would claim credit for every apparent terrorist attack immediately, regardless of whether or not it was really them. Maybe it was them, maybe it wasn't, maybe the truth could be found out quickly, maybe it couldn't.

If true.. that is beyond stupid.
I haven't really paid that much attention to what he's said after he initially came on the scene. Too many other more important things going on. Like the election and ensuing BLUE WAVES.

(1,148 posts)I think Avenatti has an oversized ego, and wish he would censor himself more, but I'm inclined to think it stinks, too.
However, I AM wondering how exactly does one set up a false DV complaint? Doesn't the accused have to be in a relationship with the accuser? If it's a girlfriend or former girlfriend, this could not end well for Avenatti - could end up a "he said, she said".
If he is guilty, then damn him to hell.
Greybnk48
(10,167 posts)she ended her show with this story. Avenatti's estranged wife told Rachel's sources that she never called the police, she knew nothing about any of this, and that he never laid a hand on her in anger the entire time they were together.
The L.A. Police were not responding as I recall except to say Avenatti had not been charged with anything.
