There have been a lot of talk on DU about the benefits and risks of split this country based on perceived advantages if there was a general realignment of states, based on their current political make up.
This article goes a lot deeper into how this would play out over time. Submitted for your consideration.
Divided We Stand The country is hopelessly split. So why not make it official and break up?

(488 posts)Bunch North/South Dakota along with Idaho+Wyoming+Montana (sorry Montana Dems) and move all Trumpy voters, and refuse to give them a red cent since they take more than they give in terms of federal dollars. Let them form their own utopia and live with what policies they got.
I'm sure Dumbfuckistan will not be a country after less than 5 years.

It's why they're so angry. They know it's dying. The future demographics of the country will finish it off in its present incarnation. All we need to do in hold on and limit the damage they do in the meantime.

(6,496 posts)Maine is thrown in there, but we don't have much in common with the other places except NH. I think if the US ever split up, it would make sense to do it by geographical regions. Have a north eastern or new england federation. Those are people we could get on board with. Maine and Florida are kind of opposites.
