Kimora Lee Simmons (left) was seen sobbing outside the Los Angeles home of late friend and bridesmaid Kim Porter on Thursday afternoon as she watched a coroner remove her body. Simmons was beside herself as she stood in the garage alongside other loved ones to Porter, who suddenly passed away on Thursday after suffering flu-like symptoms and possibly pneumonia for several weeks. Authorities arrived at Porter's home around 11.30am after they received a call saying someone at the residence had gone into cardiac arrest. Diddy, who was at one time engaged to Porter and shares three children with her, is said to be 'devastated' over her sudden death.

(34,095 posts)Mine hit fast and I spent a week in the hospital, half of it barely awake. I was 40 years old, active and healthy with 2 little kids.
Get your flu shots people and if you tend toward respiratory issues get the pneumonia vaccine as well. Even doing all of that I have had pneumonia 3 times since then, just not as badly as before and once was because I got whooping cough (please vaccinate your kids, that is not a fun thing to have). Still, you can help your body fight these things, it makes no sense to not do it.

(29,669 posts)I think it's a belief that we've taught ourselves that the flu "isn't so bad" and we just need to muddle through it. As a whole we tend to skip our flu shots, thinking they don't work. We underestimate how bad the flu can be, thinking it will only kill the elderly.
Unfortunately she has become a precautionary tale. She's wealthy, in good health and can afford the best of care yet still died. Cases like this are why no one should ever take the flu or a "chest cold" lightly.

(29,669 posts)is in the OP. I followed the link-looks like they might have updated some information.
I found another source that said the call was for cardiac arrest and that she had been suffering from flu like symptoms for several weeks, with one source stating they thought she had pneumonia. I've tried to link it here but my phone is being stubborn.

This is the closest attributed to a reliable source:

The reason for the 911 call was cardiac arrest. Any connection to the flu is being described, by those closest to the scene, as a rumor ("It is thought that"
Could it have been the flu? Sure - but the initial available information does not seem to confirm that.
