Charlie Pierce on Kathleen Rice, a leader of the Dem anti-Pelosi movement

Last edited Fri Nov 16, 2018, 08:21 PM - Edit history (2)

I asked Kathleen Rice - a leader of the Dem anti-Pelosi movement - if she’s concerned this fight will show their party in disarray. “It was not as successful as some hoped it would be, we didn’t pick up as many seats as we thought we were going to get,” she said of the midterms.

She added: “Yes are in the majority, but if we don’t start listening to voters and the message they are sending us, then we’re not going to be the majority again.”

I note that Rep. Rice was a Republican until 2005 and, according to this report, is eager to work "across the aisle" with her former colleagues. This whole thing sounds like a put-up job to defang the new majority in its crib.

I, for one , am satisfied with the number of seats we got ! Is she implying we didn't lean right enough and pick up more seats in red districts?

From the link in Charles Pierce's tweet:

Four local Republican officials crossed party lines to endorse Democratic Rep. Kathleen Rice for Congress on Tuesday, citing her efforts toward bipartisan public service.

“Kathleen Rice listens to her constituents, represents her entire constituency rather than just a select few,” said Thomas Tweedy, mayor of the Village of Floral Park. “She has earned our respect and support.” https://theislandnow.com/politics-99/kathleen-rice-wins-backing-from-gop-officials/

That is why I say these exciting, bold new comers to positions of power really have a lot to learn. They need to learn how to study and research their own colleagues and not take everything as truth that is being thrown at them just because someone SAYS they agree with them. We, Democrats, are always infiltrated by the right.

They all need to take some time and do some research into their own issues, their colleagues, the HISTORY of the Democratic party, including the ugly history, the record and positions of their colleagues and who there opposition is and what the opposition has and will do.

a movement.

A few people opportunistically maneuvering for committee assignments is not a movement.

A few resentful misogynistic white men grabbing a chance to cause trouble for a woman who far outstrips them in character and ability is not a movement.

The longstanding Republican effort to take out one of our best generals is not a movement.

The Dems have picked up almost 40 seats as they won control of the House. The Dems stand an excellent chance of winning the Senate in 2020. The repubs have to defend 22 seats in 2020. We just have to stay united and keep our eyes on the short and long term goals.

Looking forward to McConnell blustering about bipartisanship on the Senate floor, every time the House sends a bill or starts a new investigation.

Switching from train to music...

Pelosi can be an excellent conductor, waving that gavel like a baton over an orchestra of House committees filled with seasoned artists and newbies galore. That's another reason for Pelosi; she knows how to get them all timed and tuned together.

Every single one of these to infiltrating Repuke-lite f#ckers should be plopped into a lead wall political quarantine.

The right plays the long game, it took them decades to engineer and deploy the disaster zone we see today, I personally question whether a person is even capable of a true paradigm shift in the ideology they developed over an entire lifetime.

One day this, the next that?

No.

I've never really liked her (even as the DA), but we're lucky to have that seat. Long Islanders have been electing people like Lee Zelden and Peter King for years. Rice is better than the alternative.

I had an odd encounter with her in October 2016. As I was on my way out the door to run a phone bank for Hillary, my own phone rang. It was Kathleen Rice who was phone banking that day for her own race. I told her that I didn't have time to talk, that I would be voting D., and that I hoped to see her at my own phone bank later that day. I remember that I said something like "Wait...you're calling for Kathleen Rice or you are Kathleen Rice?" when I answered the phone

I've called her office, and if she schedules any events I'll be there. Rice pulled the same crap two years ago. I wonder if any leader other than Nancy Pelosi would have been able to save the ACA in the summer of 2017.

gaining seats in Congress , we’re going to have to win in districts like this. I can remember the articles when Gillibrand , who got elected in a red district, was in Congress of Nancy Pelosi tearing her hair out because Gillibrand voted with the Republicans most of the time. But we can’t let them take control of our party and determine its course.

the nazi party of America is not worthy of being a member of the democratic party as far as I am concerned. There can be zero negotiations with the nazis. They deserve little more than derision. Their leader is a traitor to America in fact and the party, in supporting this orange ass, is a traitor to American values. Where is there to find a middle ground with that? We must stand firm on liberal/progressive left wing values or we fall and go down in history as worthless as the social democrats just prior to the complete power take over of the NSDAP of Germany in 1933. Should we fail, the world shall know a whole new level of horror not before even imagined.
