(10,154 posts)He calls himself a progressive Democrat. He's pro choice and pro gun control. He supports public transportation.
But he does have this against him:
He is a member of the New Democrat Coalition, a congressional caucus made up of Democrats who support an agenda described as "moderate", "pro-growth", and "fiscally responsible".
That's (moderate, pro-growth) usually a signal that they believe in "free" market nonsense. But he doesn't support the TPP.
Moulton was ranked the 34th most bipartisan member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the 114th United States Congress (as well as the most bipartisan member of Congress in either chamber from Massachusetts and the most bipartisan member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
OK, well that is worrying. Bipartisan usually means supports some stupid ass RepubliCON ideas.

(102,225 posts)He's got aspirations and a big time Anti-Pelosi vendetta. I'd guess, from what is occurring, that many of his supporters have begun to clue in that their objectives are not necessarily meshing with his.

(58,785 posts)all the positions they sold there merely recast in different wording to sell better on CNN.
But not always different wording. She dismissed the ACA's mandatory coverages (10 including coverage for doctor office visits, ER care, inpatient hospital care, etc., etc.,) as what makes you have to pay for maternity care even if you don't need it -- a Fox line she repeated hundreds of times over there to convince people it meant a worthless rip-off.
I'd give her a bottle of water and call 911 if I found her broken down in the desert, and the dust I kicked up as I drove off. But that's all.
Me.

(16,245 posts)They are so far behind the times.
Bipartisanship assumes the other side is negotiating in good faith, which we know now they no longer do.

(229 posts)many Dems thought they would fall in line, catch the wave of pro growth moderate fiscal responsibility, in other words, trickle down economics. It set our party on a disastrous course that has almost destroyed the party and the country (and it still may be too late to fix). Fascist talking points needs to be abolished from this party once and for all.

(58,785 posts)His record wouldn't carry him to the second debate is my guess. He couldn't possibly hope to win, and just maybe this event will shine a light on that reality.
Running for president is the new pathway to other ventures, though it tends to be more of a republican thing as a rule. Huckabee and Gingrich used it to help sell books and videos. I still haven't figured out what Herman Cain was selling though.

(22,912 posts)Alas, it is my painful duty to report that the #FiveWhiteGuys are led by Seth Moulton, congresscritter from the Sixth Congressional District here in the Commonwealth (God save it!), and a man who has been farting higher than his own arse ever since he got elected in 2014. Moulton ran a strong campaign. He ousted an endangered incumbent who was all tangled in so much family corruption that a Republican pickup of that seat was a distinct possibilityor, at least, as distinct a possibility as was ever enjoyed by a Massachusetts Republican. Almost immediately, Moulton signed on to the challenge to Pelosi's leadership mustered up by the anti-charismatic Tim Ryan of Ohio. Almost immediately, and most spectacularly, Moulton began spending a lot of time in Iowa. This is a fellow who thinks a great deal of his own inherent political gifts.
Now, it seems, they've gotten the band back together again. The #FiveWhiteGuys are Moulton, Ryan, Ed Perlmutter of Colorado, Kurt Schrader of Oregon, and Bill Foster of Oregon, and Bill Foster of Illinois. The driving forces remain Moulton and Ryan, with the latter the putative leader. After an election in which the Democratic Party continues to elect a demographically and politically diverse collection of new House members, Ryan is still insisting that the party needs to "reach out" to angry white men in places like Ohio when, in fact, if the midterms proved anything, it is that the Democratic Party's future is in places like Arizona and Nevada, and even Georgia and Florida, while, except for Sherrod Brown, god bless him, Ohio is a lost cause. It was an outlier even in its own geographic area. There were Democraticand progressivevictories in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. Ohio and, yes, Iowa, were loss leaders.
This did not stop Moulton, who declines to challenge Pelosi himself, from spouting off in Roll Call that he and his group have the votes to block Pelosi's elevation to the speakership on the floor of the Housealthough, as has now become customary, Moulton declines to provide details on exactly how many members of the House have signed on here.
I am willing to concedeindeed, I am devoutly hopingthat this talk is all a bluff. The #FiveWhiteGuys seem to think they can scare Pelosi out of running, which is completely foolish. This is because, if it's not a bluff, and Moulton really has these votes, it almost certainly means that he's cut a deal with some Republicans to get them.

(5,693 posts)Long article, but very interesting, especially when you see who backed Moulton and sings his praises. Relevant excerpt below link:
Seth Moulton is in Washington because he did something he wasnt supposed to do: He challenged a nine-term incumbent. He ran against not only John Tierneya reliably liberal vote for nearly 20 years, known as a workhorse, not a show horsebut essentially the leadership of the Democratic Party. Siding with Tierney were Pelosi, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the most prominent Massachusetts Democratsfrom Elizabeth Warren in the Senate on down to the House. I support incumbents unless theyre incarcerated, Emily Cherniack, an informal Moulton adviser and the executive director of New Politics, said she was told by one seasoned Massachusetts politico. Joe Trippi, who worked on the presidential campaigns of Ted Kennedy, Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, Howard Dean and others, was warned by establishment Democrats in Washington that he would never eat lunch in this town again, he said, if he went to work for Moulton. He did anyway. This is exactly the kind of person we need in the party today, Trippi said.

I called his office this morning and got some BS about he wants a new generation of leaders, his choice is Marcia Fudge, she's 66 according to Wiki how is that a new generation? She's from Ohio like his buddy Tim Ryan.
