Where are our heartland diner stories? Our profiles of surging voters who "upset the status quo" with "maverick politicians"? How come voters in blue states that got bluer and purple states that went blue and red districts that flipped aren't getting the Trump voter treatment?
Weird how more than a week after a Democratic wave electing tons of women and further diversifying our government, the mainstream media isn't giving us lavish profiles of Democratic voters who rejected the GOP and Trump.
It would make one think that gosh, this whole thing about the media being liberal is bullshit, and that the mainstream media caters to Republican whims while minimizing the rest of us no matter the political power we display.

(11,433 posts)Corporations by their very nature are conservative. That includes the corporate and conservative media. It is an excellent example of cognitive processing and the way our brains take in new informationif a lie is repeated often enough we begin to believe it and it becomes common knowledge.

(4,723 posts)Seems pretty clear where corporate media priorities lie. Oh, they'll throw in a few liberal voices here and there, to look all balanced. But the main narrative is quite clear.

How and why conservative nonsense dominates American politics
The hack gap has two core pillars. One is the constellation of conservative media outlets led by Fox News and other Rupert Murdoch properties like the Wall Street Journal editorial page, but also including Sinclair Broadcasting in local television, much of AM talk radio, and new media offerings such as Breitbart and the Daily Caller that simply abjure anything resembling journalism in favor of propaganda.
The other is that the self-consciousness journalists at legacy outlets have about accusations of liberal bias leads them to bend over backward to allow the leading conservative gripes of the day to dominate the news agenda. Television producers who would never dream of assigning segments where talking heads debate whether its bad that the richest country on earth also has millions of children growing up in dire poverty think nothing of chasing random conservative shiny objects, from Fast & Furious (remember that one?) to Benghazi to the migrant caravan.
And more than Citizens United or even gerrymandering, its a huge constant thumb on the scale in favor of the political right in America.

(4,358 posts)The media is funded by advertising dollars, separation of church and state notwithstanding, and are increasingly owned by multi-national conglomerates.
Their reporting is skewed to reflect corporate interests, to maintain the status quo as long as that keeps money rolling in. It isn't inherently "conservative" in the sense of always supporting Republicans but it is biased against any disruption of the system that threatens corporate bottom lines.
Trump is a threat because of his unpredictability, tariffs, threats to cheap labour supply, lack of understanding of basic economic principles and blustering attacks against actually competent business-people who criticise him.
That's why the mainstream media has found their spine - not because of any inherent sympathy with progressive causes.

(4,125 posts)Trump is dangerous because the conservative press reports his lies without repute OR refute.
Trump is dangerous because the conservative press is bent toward CONSERVATIVES, which is why so many of them have their own show.
"Their reporting is skewed to reflect corporate interests" <<<<<------- you could have stopped there. Really.

Last night the rant was about how liberal the courts are. This despite the fact that the Republican senate held open 90+ seats during the Clinton years so Bush could fill them with Federalist Society members, and they did the same thing with 100+ seats they didn't let Obama fill in anticipation of a Republican being the next president. (They didn't expect it would be Comrade Crazy, I'll bet.)
And we all know the legend of Merrick Garland and McConnell's "greatest achievement of my life."
They really do live in a fact-free bubble, don't they?
