Yesterday we went to the nearby Verizon store to upgrade our phones and do some switcheroos. In the past the people at the stores were always helpful as if your customer experience mattered. If you had a problem with your phone, your account or wanted to make some changes, they would help and make sure you left happy.
The guy who helped us yesterday probably violated new company policy which seems to be to separate the customer from as much money as you can and then tell them to get lost.
Even on the website you cannot cancel something, you can only upgrade and spend more. You have to call the customer service line where they try and talk you into spending more even though you tell them you have not used a device for 2 years and yet are paying for it.
It's like a trump hotel.

(34,131 posts)Most of Verizon's towers and system was destroyed. AT&T set up locations and gave away SIM cards for unlocked phones and new phones for others so people could make calls and contact family.
Even when Verizon was rebuilding their system, they put in 5G so unless people had newer phones they still could not use it. They lost even more customers by telling people they had to upgrade to continue with Verizon. Many of those people will never return to Verizon and a lot will stay loyal to AT&T due to their quick response after the storm.

(26,249 posts)I've contacted Customer Service, twice with questions - once over the phone and once with internet chat. Both times my questions were handled quickly and politely. I got my phone through them and the on-line tutorial videos are great.

(13,870 posts)They run on the ATT backbone so coverage is good. #1 for customer service rating with Consumer Reports.. Verizon is in the mud..

(10,885 posts)Any "problem" I had was self-created, and Customer Service bailed me out.
Have to admit I was skeptical at first - "too good a deal," etc. but was happily proven wrong.

(26,249 posts)The bundled deal I got (which, admittedly, has saved me money) is ending. There's a beautiful Xfinity store right down the road but they said any change in service has to be done over the phone. That makes no sense. Besides, I much prefer face to face communication.
Any high pressuring will end up with me canceling everything but the lowest level of service plus internet, and if I can find a reasonable replacement for their internet, it will be bye bye.

(4,492 posts)If you're a heavy user (I used over 2000 minutes last month for work alone and sent about twice as many texts), it is definitely not a good deal. I need something that offers me unlimited talk/text.
If you have a landline and you occasionally use your phone for emergencies, then yes it is a good deal.

(5,004 posts)They have been bending over backwards to help us since they lost a lot of other military customers to T-Mobile. They drastically cut our bill to be competitive with the Tmobile military plan. Hopefully I will not experience the horrible customer service that you received.

(51,567 posts)I never use my cell phone and only keep it for emergencies and long distance. I got a smart phone from them in 2012 and never upgraded. When I needed to make hundreds of calls to Congress over the past two years I called Verizon and was told I could have unlimited long distance for $6 LESS a month than what I was paying. When my battery wasn't staying charged recently I took my phone into a center and the guy was super cool and told me they don't even make my type of battery anymore and told me to go to Ebay and order one and it would cost about $10. That is what I did. He also answered all types of "stupid" tech questions and was really patient.

(10,885 posts)Didn't want to pay a bundle for iPhone since I'm not much of a phone person, but wanted to make in-car calls, so switched to Consumer Cellular, who offered me an iPhone 5 (e'nuf tech for me) for $150 outright, w/CC sim card. Pay $21.53/month for phone/data/text at lowest levels. Higher plans are just slightly more and are adjustable.
The only difficulty was that I couldn't automatically switch the numbers from the flip to the iPhone, and had to manually enter all of them.
