(51,563 posts)The median age is 47. A lot of seniors lived there and had to crawl out on their hands and knees. They couldn't drive out and have no cell phones, etc to contact anyone. The number of dead will only increase a lot, the local news is reporting.

(38,410 posts)Where are these people going to live? How will they survive? No one knows how many are homeless. Hopefully there will be support from the federal government.

(58,785 posts)no doubt completely overtaxed. There are no jobs there now. People of any means at all and/or support of family/friends left days ago. The ones still there are probably retired living mostly on Social Security and low-pay service workers, both living month to month. The people without jobs who haven't left need social worker assistance to help them move on.
I saw one woman longing to just be able to go back and sit on her dirt if that was all that was left of her home. She wanted to go see it and be there. That's the one who got me.
