I'm not opposed to having a new speaker, but this smacks of misogyny or ageism or...

I know this has been the topic of the last two weeks, but I was just listening to it on NPR and thinking

The Five White Guys don't have a viable alternate. No one wants to take the gavel. No one wants to challenge Pelosi. They are all chickenshits, too afraid to do it themselves but ready to start a fight with anyone who thinks Pelosi should be speaker again.

The excuse I heard was that a lot of these people won the mid term by running on a "replace Pelosi" ticket. For the life of me I cannot understand why so many people would only vote Dem if their candidate promised not to vote for Pelosi (without any good alternative in sight). Is this the cost of appealing to the independents or middle of the road Dems?

Make of it what you will. I don't see the Repubs trying oust him on that criteria.

But of course, he is a white male.

Not Susan Collins? Check.

Maybe, just maybe Cindy Hyde "Blatantly Racist" Smith? You have to wonder if being extremely racist cancels out the being female part.

MacBeth, scene V

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

They got nothing. Nancy will be the speaker.

And then what do they plan on doing if they successfully block her? Huh? Flip a coin maybe? Draw straws?

Like I said, I wouldn't mind if there was a good challenger. It would be even better if Pelosi announced her support for someone. But to attack her based on nothing?!

That gavel isn't Pelosi's birthright and as a service to the American people she should surrender it the absolute instant a better candidate is available.

But I have to think a better candidate would have been known by now, if one existed. Taking it away from her just for the sake of taking it away is pretty hard to excuse.

That they believe there are better qualified congress people? You would assume that to be the case, but not a single name has been advanced as a legitimate contender.

I also heard the "plan" for concession: let Pelosi be speaker until 2020 and then hand it over to someone else. So she can win the House for us and see us through potentially another two years of the Rump, but she should graciously hand over the reigns to someone else at that point. I guess part of that plan is to have found someone viable by that point.

It shows such magnanimity, doesn't it?
