I am thrilled to have lived this long; I very much doubted I'd make it. Life is so much more beautiful as you appreciate its brevity. One of the great and unexpected joys of my life was to see a very human and very decent African American President outshine his peers.

Of course the tragedy of his succession hurts, but I am grateful to have lived in a country that could produce Barack Obama.
