corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We can also throw in the other one about the love of money being the root of all evil. Although I would change the second one to more accurately say the love of power is the root of all evil. Money is just a tool to be used for good or evil.
Its a true blue Duh! moment. Up to now we could only refer to these concepts in historical terms, or we knew of individual world figures like the dictators Joseph Stalin, Hitler, Caligula, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin et al, but much to our dismay and disgust our government is now replete with corruption. It is drowning all our ideals in an ocean of slimy greed.
We were never the perfect country we espoused or believed ourself to be, but our intentions were mostly to fulfill our ideologies as a free Democracy that even if we fell short of our ideals, we still strived for them. We have been a country that never stopped the underlying revolution of constant change and adaptability. We have always been in the grip of ideals and in the pursuit of a perfect Democracy. Human equality has been the guiding goal to achieve for everyone. That is what we have demanded our government be, represent, execute and foment.
The Blue Wave is just the first battle in our war against the absolute corruption that our Federal, and many State governments are drowning in. This war has always been on in this country as each era, each generation, each race moves forward. But we have to know who and what the enemy of freedom is. It is all things swirling around the corruption in the heart of our country. Donald Trump is just The figurehead. He is the rotted head of the fish, and his minions are the majority of the GOP. And the singular pure reason for what they are doing is their love of power. Love of the power that money gives them has corrupted them absolutely.
In hindsight its all there to see. Maybe we should thank the utter and brazen absolutely corrupt Trump family for opening our eyes. They have done a great job of exposing the truth, not just of themselves but of those who we trusted and who have shown us the depth and extent of the corruption. We really are faced with the truth now and with choices we cant ignore anymore.
We can do this without bloodshed, which is really the true Democratic way. We already have a toehold with the Democratic and truly representative candidates we elected. We just have to back them too, and look and work forward to the next election, and the next five elections. Obviously vigilance is required.

(53,410 posts)Ive always put it as money makes everyone more of what they already are. If theyre good they use money for good and if theyre greedy and corrupt it magnifies that.

(53,410 posts)The corruption has to be proven, and our justice system has to act on it in order to have a justifiable counter revolution to the corruption being acted out in our government, both on the State level and the Federal level.
At least we know we have the Judiciary mostly doing the right thing still. No telling though with the Supreme Court as its made up today. Not yet anyway. But its teetering on those scales.

(15,751 posts)Historically there is hope for major reform. Seems to me that the 1960's Civil Rights Movement/legislations have really made a difference over the decades in public attitudes in the South and nationally. In a peculiar example, two of the most rabid trumpsters I know, who justify almost everything trump does - draw a line at hatred of blacks. To be sure, its an odd line, in that they both fiercely insist that the massive 1960's voting shift from Democrats to Republicans was about race. [Their excuses are somewhat similar to Southern Civil War excuse - state's rights, agrarian society, etc. ]. These trumpsters seem to feel deeply, take umbrage at the old Southern nasty names for Blacks. When I suggest George Wallace's 'nigra' and his popular support they have to be unconvinced at that example - not a widely used term, etc.

(53,410 posts)via the long road of peaceful Democratic activity we do have a great opportunity to make a major leap in true and lasting reform. If we are successful then Trump will have been the catalyst and our country will leap forward.
I hope thats how it happens the way you point it out.
