slowly but surely, donnie will come to be seen as a lame duck

his political career is effectively over.

i think the news on the economy is turning as the stock market has taken a major hit. we may have a decent "holiday season", but as soon as it's over, the news on the economy will start to get worse and worse.

the "conventional wisdom" will be that between the weakening economy, talk of recession, and mueller and other legal issues, donnnie is toast.

the "smart money" in politics will be that, similar to 2008 when we also had a horrible president, republicans simply can win and the money and attention will flow massively to the democratic primary, as the general will be effectively deemed a foregone conclusion.

the "conventional wisdom" will soon be that if he runs for re-election, he will lose spectacularly.
or he can decline and save himself the embarrassment. either way, he will never run for any political office again.

an open question is whether some republicans will think it worth their while to compete for the privilege of losing to a democrat in the general. donnie may or may not be made to go down with the ship.

in any event, donnie became a lame duck on november 6.

the media will of course continue to drool over his latest outrage, but politically, even the media will gradually start to treat him like he's irrelevant, all that remains is the drama of under what circumstances will he make his exit.

lame duck.

he doesn't see himself as a lame duck - winning in 2020 is the only thing that matters to him. given the nature of our presidential politics, he could well drag any dem nominee into the mire with him and repeat the 2016 giant-douche-or-shit-sandwich strategy. they're going to have to be able to counter his insults with a sharp wit.

you're correct, however: his act has worn thin. hardly anyone is amused. we're at the intersection of the boy-who-cried-wolf and the emperor's-new-clothes.

but he'll never appear anywhere where jeering is possible.

a good president would have built up a big bag of political chits and goodwill and popularity.

Pretty bad when a Supreme Court Justice...The Leader...comes out publicly. He's being appropriately roasted on a daily basis for one thing or another and he's getting spooked...doubling down.

When will the Congressional Rs get that they better get rid of him to keep their seats. Not there yet, but Nixon Redux is not far from the horizon.
