55 years later, a motive for Oswald still hasn't been found:
What did Lee Harvey Oswald do for two years in the Soviet city of Minsk? And why did the American authorities let him return without any fuss in 1963? A few months later he would be arrested for shooting the US President. Vincent Dowd has been listening to archive accounts of Oswald's time in the USSR and speaking to Anthony Summers who has written about the assassination of President Kennedy.

(16,829 posts)There's a lot of evidence that shows other people were involved. There's also evidence that Oswald may not have even been on the 6th floor at the time of the shooting.

And still, nothing but Oswald alone has ever fit.

all the CREDIBLE evidence says a nutcase far-left loser shot Kennedy.

Usual tack they take when accused of something. I wasn't questioning the Party she belongs to, just that the opposition uses the same illogic.

The one unescapable fact is that Oswald did fire the fatal shots
I assume some of these same folks will say that Oswald had nothing to do with the killing of Officer J.D. Tippit also

and sow dissent in our society began long before Putin and his trump bots. Was Oswald sent back to be set up as the Patsy for the ultimate disruption, the shooting of a president?
If Snowden tries to come back I hope the FBI shadows him constantly. If won't happen while Putin's bitch is still president though.

(2,807 posts)And I am very, very curious.
Why was a defector to the CCCP allowed back? I do not know. Did Oswald renounce his American citizenship when he defected? Did he burn his American bridges upon leaving? He claimed to be a Marxist, but that's not illegal.
Did he betray the US? I don't know. I've read he served as a radar operator in the US Air Force before he left, and he might have knowledge of illegal U2 over flights of the CCCP. But again, there's no evidence he ever betrayed this country.
Why let him back in? I'm not sure. Any other defectors ever change their mind? Any other defectors ever let back in? How often?
Did he ever lose his American citizenship? I'm not aware if he did. So why not let him back in?
I would think the American intel services would very much want to de-brief this man who spent a few years living in that closed society. I would think that played a huge role in his being let back in.
That Oswald defected to the Soviet Union, then came back to America during the late 1950's/early 1960's is incredibly intriguing. Absolutely it adds to the many questions surrouding this assassination.
I have a GREAT interest (and curiousity) regarding this case. I am very comfortable in sorting facts from myths. And there are a bunch of myths here. I have a very open mind. I can be convinced with good evidence and arguments. My mind can be changed.
So far I am not convinced the the Soviet Union had anything to do with Oswald assassinating President Kennedy. But maybe you know something I don't.

(5,499 posts)Because it is more tolerable to think that there was an inside job against Kennedy because he was anti-cuba or anti-organized crime or anti-vietnam. But the more likely truth is that Oswald fired the shots of a lifetime. It's sad. And it's not particularly sexy. But it's probably the truth. A great person can be taken down by a lucky shot.

(92,168 posts)"At 12:45 p.m., 15 minutes after Kennedy was shot, Tippit received a radio order to drive to the central Oak Cliff area as part of a concentration of police around the center of the city. At 12:54, Tippit radioed that he had moved as directed. By then several messages had been broadcast describing a suspect in the killing of Kennedy[19] as a slender white male, in his early thirties, 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m) tall, and weighing about 165 pounds (75 kg). Oswald was a slender white male, 24 years old, 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 m) tall, and an estimated weight of 150 pounds (68 kg) at autopsy.[20]
At approximately 1:111:14 p.m.,[17] Tippit was driving slowly eastward on East 10th Street about 100 feet (30 m) past the intersection of 10th Street and Patton Avenue when he pulled alongside a man who resembled the police description.[21][22] Oswald walked over to Tippit's car and apparently exchanged words with him through an open vent window.[23] Tippit opened his car door and as he walked toward the front of the car, Oswald drew his handgun and fired four shots in rapid succession. One bullet hit Tippit in the chest, one in the stomach, another in his right temple (one bullet hit a button and did not penetrate his skin). Tippit's body was transported from the scene of the shooting by ambulance to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:25 p.m. by Dr. Richard A. Liguori.[7] "

During the 24 years I lived in Las Vegas I would use that question immediately toward newcomers to the sports betting scene, to identify if they were worth listening to or not. It was amazingly successful. The ones who scoffed at any notion of a conspiracy were the ones who could properly weigh variables in that realm also.

I think Oliver Stone's film helped keep this conspiracy alive. But then Norman Mailer wrote a book about Oswald that didn't get much attention, mainly, I think, because Mailer's conclusions were that he (Oswald) acted alone.

Both grew up during the early days of television and it seems both craved the kind of attention they saw people getting on TV. LHO toyed with communism and demonstrations to get attention, even moved to Russia but found out the commies weren't really interested in the loser so he moved back to Texas. Like many Texans, he learned to hate that damn librul JFK.
Drumpf inherited a fortune so he could do whatever he wanted. Didn't have to work or learn anything. Self-promotion and self-aggrandizement were this rich kid's way of getting the attention he craved; it's still all he really knows.
LHO's big opportunity knocked in the days leading up to the JFK visit to Dallas. LHO found out the motorcade route would pass right by his workplace and the alarm bells went off in his head. This was his big chance to become the center of the universe with TV cameras and everything! He was gonna be somebody big after all.
I doubt somebody with a grand conspiracy would risk it all on someone as unpredictable as LHO who was liable to spill the beans, say or do anything to get attention.

(4,377 posts)There appear to be lots of strange events surrounding his time in Russia and about CIA people being linked to him prior to the shooting. It would be good to get some clarity on that stuff, without the assumption that other people were actually involved in the assassination.
