The planet as a whole is warming. Global warming is the precise term for the climactic changes that we are causing to our planet.

The problem is that far too many people in the United States are scientifically ignorant. If the planet is warming, that means that extreme weather events will occur. Accordingly, we'll have all of the conditions you've listed and probably more.

The combination of Fox News, the Republican-led destruction of public education and just plain laziness has made much of our populace simply stupid. They cannot understand the science behind these profound problems so they diminish and dismiss the issues with facile and idiotic simplistic snark.

On an evolutionary scale, we're doomed.

Valstork and fellow members. I do not log in very often, Its a foreigner and a country I love thing. I fear offending citizens. I do realise that I am dealing with smart people though and am being just overcautious. I do read the boards every day though.

I made a comment to one of my former comrades in Ireland the other day about my opinion on where we are, again no offence.

I made the observation that the USA had become medieval Europe where the norm was to burn witches (scientists) at the stake by the state under the control of religious nuts.

Not to generalise I know many spiritual clergymen of all persuasions and while not having their beliefs, their existence does not bother me, It might have one time but getting old bring a little maturity I like in myself.

Anyhow it bothers me that one of what used to be one of the greatest countries in the world has been so fucked up by what are obvious imbeciles and those who are not but put on an act of pretence to loot what they can. If they are all imbeciles it says a lot for the third level schools they attended and conclude piracy must be on the curriculum.

The globe as a whole is warming. But it is not as if we stuck it in a convection oven and heated it equally on all sides.

Dark water, white ice caps, landmasses--all absorb or reflect heat to different extents. Air currents, ocean currents, the esrth's axial tilt, etc all combine to move the greater absorbed energy around... differently. Some places will actually get colder... Hence the term "climate change." Makes it easier for us ignoramuses to grasp.
