The lighters were used for smoking and lighting huts on fire.

From the spouse. Vietnam 1970-71.

His zippo reads “if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.”

I have some similar ones in shiny condition.

That one looks like it's been through a war or something. (LOL)

Thanx for posting.

"Best of Luck from the Officers and Men, G2, I FIELD FORCE Vietnam." The other one says "Love and Kisses from the Ones Who Really Know You, Apollo and Joey."

The two lighters are among my most prized possessions. I was in RVN from December 1966 to December 1967. Just long enough to miss the Summer of Love in the US and the Tet Offensive in Vietnam and to experience the turmoil of 1968 in this country.

Both my brothers were in Viet Nam and one had a lighter similar to those. They were there in 68-69 and 70-71.

The lighter in this story, true story as it happens, was a Zippo. Happened about 1960 or so.

I came across this some time ago.

Wheat fell headless in the field
Till Death did reap enough.
We seek to bury the revealed
No earth is deep enough.
You cannot wash the stains from minds
No one can weep enough.
Nor shut the past behind the blinds
No night has sleep enough.

And then there's the classic: War doesn't determine who's right, only who's left.
