(1,718 posts)Worst Black Friday season I've ever seen.

(60,014 posts)very, very slow - Trader Joe was as empty as I've seen it on a Friday - but it is the dearth of traffic near stores that surprised (and delighted!) me. Local news website showed one single person arriving super early at a Best buy at a local mall - the big news was the lack of news.
Maybe there is hope....or everyone is just sitting buying too much shit on line rather than creating insane crowds at stores!

(90,648 posts)...to evoke customer hysteria. They just offer good deals all year round, including regularly scheduled sales. Both of them get jammed at certain times, but so far I have never seen hysterical shoppers.

(5,477 posts)Costco and TJ just give good value all year, and don't have to do any pf the phony super deals to bring people in...they are pretty ethical, liberal, and always give good value for your dollar.
We did our best to stay away from Costco for the past week (pre T-day crowds all week made the parking and lines just a little more than I wanted to deal with), but will head out on Monday to get some things we need (have to hit 2 different Costco stores...a regular one and a business center for some specialty items). Fortunately they are only a couple of miles from each other, and only a few miles from home.
Only other 'black Friday' shopping we did was at the AAFES (Army and Air Force Exchange Service) online store (they are now available to ALL veterans, whether you retired or not). Got a decent deal on a GoPro and an Epson color printer we had been looking over at Costco a few weeks ago. (Slightly lower price than Costco, no tax, and free shipping!)

(7,316 posts)So I went to a book store. It was in a crowded shopping center despite the light rain.
I saw about $200 worth of merchandise I would like for myself, including some Beatles books. I didn't buy anything.

(3,605 posts)My old stomping grounds!y I have many many many fond memories which include Kahala Mall! Mahalo for leading me down memory lane. And as far as Black Friday goes, it just isn't my thing. You wouldn't catch me out shopping on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

All of the stores had the exact same markdown for a Roland AxEdge Keytar for my son.
None of the stores honored any other discount codes... none of them. They were all price fixed.
eBates is giving a 2X reward, which brings it to 8.5%, paid several weeks from now, but that's not the point.
With or without eBates, these stores all seem to be fixing prices.

(100 posts)the crowd size down a bit. My husband got his new phone and our new tablet on Monday which was great because we *don't* do in-store black Friday madness.
I think a lot of stores are starting their sale period ahead of the start of the big sales weekend.

Had to make a Costco run about noon time today, and usually that would be a no no. Not today,in and out in less than a hour. Really did not cherish the Costco idea, but, the Boss Lady handed me the list and away I go. Major Payday here in the Valley this week, meaning should be Crowds from hell, but not to be.

(20,868 posts)Oddly, there was hardly a soul to be seen.
I don't get even a $30.00 annual reward out of that $60.00 membership fee.
Not sure it is worth it; long drive 50+ r/t.

(54,362 posts)For him, it's only a half hour drive, and every time I've been along, we have to wait to find a parking space, it's so crowded.
There's no Costco in the country where I live, so I don't really know what it's like at any of their other outlets.

(89,247 posts)just check to see how much more/less you would spend if you bought the stuff you buy at costco in a year from somewhere else. take into account things like membership fee, drive time/gas etc.

(11,885 posts)And not spending on anything except what's needed until trump leaves office. Reduced driving to a minimum also until he's gone.
