He thought ALL people are equal under the law and in spirit, even those with whom he disagreed.
The people at the website named after him who I respect have no animus toward DU or DUers.

Or, they bought him off.

(35,454 posts)My dog was happy to see me when I got home after a few days at the Golden Gloves in the late spring. Jumped up, knocked me backwards, hit the base of my skull on a counter, was knocked out. My summer vacation was in the ICU; blood pool on brain and "dead brain matter" -- sounds like a Trump support group.
Me.

(25,347 posts)it is a shame that Americans thrive on massive numbers of books and films about intra- and inter-governmental conspiracies but refuse to admit that it is possible in the real world.

(44,228 posts)He was hot and heavy over there for a while, tho.
I never understood his appeal here. He was the most credulous poster I'd ever seen, and was demonstrably careless with sourcing, He'd post articles from odious characters like Paul Craig Roberts, or Wayne Madsen, or Don Fulsom, and didn't care that these authors were homophobes and bigots and white nationalists.
His posts about crop circles were legendary, and make for great re-reading, even to this day.
Truthfully, I miss Octa. He was one of the most entertaining posters at DU.

6. He was being attacked so much by both left and right .
that he was disgusted. Theres room here for many points of view, but there are some voices that are pushing so hard against anything at all that is is unpleasant now for some of us here.

(6,341 posts)Some here have active accounts in the cess pool known as Discussionist. And I get it, its a cess pool that makes money and keeps this site mostly free...so why complain about some others who go to other boards? People are free to go where they want. But some internet puritans demand you do not have accounts in "un-approved" websites. I have an account at JPR, BECAUSE of all the negative publicity....why? Well I get curious...particularly when I see accusations with little to support it...or even worse, drag years old info into a context that doesn't fit today.
Now, I have a friend in Fresno (pretty sure you can guess his political leanings) and I think Democrats are often too conservative for me...and yet, were friends. And some here, would condemn me for having a Republican friend and not goose stepping with all Democratic ideals. In short, some want us to shut up, line up and become the Democratic "GOP".

(24,560 posts)Many refused to agree to DU's TOS after Hillary won the nomination.
To me, indicates that they are not a Democrat.
R B Garr
(16,920 posts)and anti-Harris spam, the same as was done here to Hillary. She made it well known that she didnt vote for Hillary in the GE, and when pressed said she learned nothing from rooting against our nominee. If there was some lesson there she could have shared, that was what the TOS mentioned, I think, but she learned nothing. Just back to attacking Democrats.

His BFEE info was a big attractive feature for me on the site, in the second li'l bush term. Can't say the same for op s from the little handful of detractors who always pop up when he posted.
You weren't alone.

(11,353 posts)BCCI scandal, BFEE, Iran-Conta, and other juicy stories. I nosed around over at JPR a few times and never saw him there. I was away from here for about 2-yrs. and when I wandered back here he was gone. I would have like to read his take on the Panama Papers. Probably could have tied them back to the BCCI crooks.
