(34,661 posts)last year about the same time. The Cashier was bragging about it because Trump got elected. Asked the Lady if she was a Member of the Retail Clerks, yes she said, reminded her how your job at Union Pa y Scale was under attack by the Rethugs, her response was, don't know about that.
Folks, you can not fix Stupid. And yes she is still Employed at Union Scale yet today. Every time I see her I remind her that her Union still has her back and now that we have Two Democratic Senators, look for more good things to come, and btw,Sharon Angle still sucks. That's another story.

(10,721 posts)Media and education reform is key to defeating this nonsense. We've been on the defensive for decades, as the Republican Party has very effectively made "liberal media" a household term. We need to hit back by talking about media consolidation, the penchant for false equivalencies, this notion that fact-checking isn't the job of journalists, etc. Keep labeling Fox News as propaganda and GOP TV.
And we should demand that media literacy be mandatory curriculum in every school. Kids need to learn how to distinguish between fact and fiction. They need to understand how to verify, check sources, to not believe everything they read on social media, etc.
Lastly, when Democrats are on TV or on the floor of Congress, speak bluntly about the stats mentioned in this article. Talk openly about how dangerously absurd it is that so many people believe utter nonsense. Make it embarrassing for people in hopes that fewer people will join their ranks.

(4,281 posts)Somebody at my church made this claim in a discussion group. So I went out and interviewed ten store employees at Walmart, Kmart, Target, and Giant Eagle. NONE of the store employees said they had been forbidden to say "Merry Christmas." I asked them about it directly; they all said NO. They all said they were saying "Happy Holidays" because it would cover every customer with no problems, and they were too busy to stop and figure out what each customer would want. This included some self-declared Republicans.
"Happy Holidays" was a wonderful and very popular song, during the 1950s, recorded by Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, a very popular husband@wife entertainer duo, which was played incessantly in stores during my childhood and youth in the fifties, sixties, and seventies. The current furor is manufactured for political purposes.
