They will deny that the facts are true. If he tells them up is down and black is white they buy it.

They could watch him shoot someone, live, on TV and when he told them it was FAKE NEWS, that the whole thing was a fake video put together by the enemy of the people, news media they'd believe him.

That's how bad it is.
