First, she is far and way the most qualified person for the job. She did a fantastic job in her four year reign. Never flubbed a vote count, was the most productive legislatively since Carter's term, and never had drama. Second, replacing her with either a less qualified man or a less qualified younger women will piss off, possibly irredeemably our base of middle aged women. There are damn few middle aged women who haven't been so replaced or have had good friends so replaced over their careers or as spouses. They will look at that as the betrayal it is. We have just won 39 seats in the House with the largest popular vote margin by percent since 1982 and by raw vote since 1974. She is a major reason we got that victory. I know it, she knows it, and the American people know it. Replacing her with a less qualified person would be a major slap in the face. Even if we found a middle aged woman who wished to be Speaker, it still would be a stupid move.

(52,129 posts)and without us having the Senate there is a 0% chance of us convicting him. Nadler, as chair of the Judiciary Committee is more important than she is for Impeachment.

And I assume since Nadler is ranking member of his committee you mean that he will become chairman on Jan. 3rd, right? Meaning he will automatically move up since the Democratic Party is now the majority in the House.
By that logic wouldn't it also mean that since Pelosi is the Democratic Party Minority Leader in the House, shouldn't she also move up to Speaker? And btw, the one who doles out assignments to members.

(52,129 posts)the chairs are voted on and are nearly always strictly by seniority. She will stock the committees with the new members and approve switches in some cases but the chairs are determined. I agree without the Senate no conviction so no eviction either.

(53,467 posts)whether she, by your logic, should ascend to the speakership?

I am confident she will do a wonderful job, as usual.

(1,537 posts)In 2010 she convinced House Dems representing red states that passing the ACA was more important than them getting re-elected. And most if not all of those members were swept out of office, due to Republican attacks and disinformation about the ACA. But they had been convinced by Pelosi that they were participating in historic legislation... which they were.
So whenever anyone claims that Pelosi oversaw big losses in the House, and that was her fault etc, lets just say that statistics can be misleading. House Dems lost that battle in November, but had already won the ACA war.
Also, a reminder that the ACA bill that Pelosi shepherded out of the House had a Single Payer option, and was much more progressive than the final bill. The Senate stripped out those provisions, but Pelosi had included them.
