As his campaign crumbles, Moulton now says he wants a sit-down with Pelosi for a negotiation that would apparently involve her booting her two deputies Hoyer and Clyburn to the curb in exchange for younger members of the caucus.
For what its worth, that wouldnt be a bad thing, at least in the abstract. All three top members of the Democratic leadership are either 78 or 79 years old. Its time to start grooming future members of the leadership. Its not that I necessarily think Hoyer and Clyburn should go. But Pelosi is not going and her experience and ability make it unwise to let her go. You have to start somewhere.
At the same time, repositioning toward ousting Hoyer and Clyburn looks very much like a desperate attempt on Moulton and Cos part to win something, even if Pelosi stays, as their gambit plummets to the earth. Pelosi does not need them. And with their numbers dwindling, they have very little power to negotiate, let alone dictate.

(2,767 posts)Pelosi is going be 80 (kicking 81 in the head) when we take back the presidency and senate. There will be lots of work to be done and not nearly enough time to do it. Moulton is 40 and had time to build himself up to take on a bigger role in the post Pelosi era. It pisses me off how some of these fuckers are trying hard to grab defeat from victory with this nonsense. I say "had" because it sounds like he managed to burn his bridges quite nicely.

(17,972 posts)To train them. Right now we need experience.
Moulton and Ryan are much like the Republican Tea Party. Most of the others have come out to back Pelosi. We do not need fighting and back stabbing at this time.

(143,999 posts)This story makes me smile. Moulton comes off looking like a putsch https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/11/26/speaker-nancy-pelosi-revolt-seth-moulton-222686
And yet shes still here.
Pelosi strides into Wednesdays House Democratic Caucus elections with her head held high, and her high heels on Moultons neck. She remains without a Democratic challenger. She has unleashed a wave of support from the Democratic faithful, from Barack Obama on down. She turned two of Moultons allies who had, just days before, stated their opposition to her. A third opponent suggested hell vote for Pelosi on the floor if no other Democratic option emerges. And she has kept several other Serve America PAC alumni from jumping aboard Moultons rickety bandwagon. While Pelosi isnt completely in the clear for the final vote on January 3 on the House floorwith Moulton clinging to 14 fellow holdouts and eight other Democrats in the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus playing hard to getshe unquestionably holds the whip hand.
Dumping a historic figure like Pelosi, the first female speaker, after she weathered a Republican blitzkrieg to help her party win back the House, was always going to be a tall order. (And dont say I didnt warn them!) But Moultons operation has been, to borrow some military jargon, FUBAR. Hes poised to not only lose his battle with the party establishment, but to lose in such humiliating fashion that it could ruin his reputation and douse whatever presidential fires may be burning in his belly.

Is that why this Pelosi thing has such urgency?
(I really don't believe so .... but why the big rush ... the house has a

(58,785 posts)This could all be explained normally, though. The changing of the guard presents opportunitiesfor people to seek committees and assignments they want, also to act out resentments and bigotries, seek publicity...
But, again. Who can help wondering if Pence could be compromised too bad to succeed Trump? Reportedly, Mueller has not interviewed him in all this time. That possibility seems to be too big for talking heads to chat about even to say it can't happen.

(101,729 posts)Nancy Pelosi isnt going to make a deal.
What the white male Democrats tried to pull on Pelosi is the same stunt that the far right pulled on John Boehner and Paul Ryan with regularity. The Democrats who opposed Nancy Pelosi did so out of ageism, sexism, and blind personal ambition. These guys didnt care about what was best for their party. They wanted power, and they didnt want to wait for it.

Blue_true
(31,261 posts)I have friends that live there. The district has become more diverse income wise over some years. A progressive Vet that lives in the district could primary him and win, according to a couple of opinions.
getagrip_already
(14,250 posts)But he isn't a great fit for that district. They can do better.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)But I also don't have conservative friends either (really can't stand that type).
I think that a VoteVet member that has a good background in one of the communities in that district can defeat him and win the General.
Moulton may be trying for a "deal" with Pelosi to cover his ass. In leadership, he would be harder to primary (hard but not impossible as Ocasio-Cortez showed), as a rank and file member, he is easier to primary.

(46,166 posts)I'm ready to contact them again asking what he's going to do to repair the district's reputation. If he gave the impression that he had major support around here then he should resign. We never got a poll from his office or any calls about this issue. As regular donors he had an obligation to contact us about it. That's why I think he acted on his own.
