They are suggesting the way that Trump will use his pardon powers to keep Manafort and probably all other of his accused accomplices out of jail. They keep on normalizing his actions and basically say Trump will push the envelope into that area that never has been attempted before and will get away with it cause every time he does push the envelope he's been fairly successful.
Trump doesn't need to be a political genius. All he needs to do is listen to the talking heads on these news channels point out ways that he can use to weasel his way out of fixes and then employ these ways.
Sometimes I think that the news channels should be charged along with Trump with obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting Trump. They are pointing the way for him.

(14,907 posts)document contains statement of facts which are violations of various state laws. So Manafort would still need to be charged and convicted at the state level. And in that case he'd reverse course, deny everything, try to beat the charges, and dare the feds to charge him with perjury for the "false" contents of the guilty plea.
But to answer your point, no I don't think Chuck Todd knows that, because he's so interested in the horse race/soap opera drama/sports analogy/back and forth/mindlessly parroting talking points/etc that he doesn't bother, you know, researching anything that he's "reporting" on.

(3,622 posts)Trump can pardon him, and even pardon him for perjury if he admits to "lying" when he admitted to those crimes in the plea agreement, but he can't undo the fact that Manafort swore to the truth of those admissions. That puts him in an absurdly weak position with tose state AG's if he decides to recant. I'm guessing that the document Manafort is preparing to release detailing why the plea deal is off will also contain enough evidence for even a baby state AG to bury Manafort with little additional effort.

(9,874 posts)He admitted to acts that would constitute state charges IF he had those state charges against him. He did not.
You can only plead guilty to state charges in state court. You cannot plead guilty to a state charge in federal court.
The states involved have to charge him first and if they wait until the statute of limitations expires on them (which varies depending on the charge) they are out of luck. Once charged, if he pleads not guilty the state prosecutors will point to his admissions made in federal court and use that as evidence of his guilt.
