In an interview with the Tribune-Review on Friday, Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate Paul Ryan said that he doesn't fear making gaffes, but that he would "have been treated much worse if he made the mistakes Biden has uttered."
Vice President Joe Biden was widely criticized by the Romney campaign this week after he told a North Carolina crowd that Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and the GOP would "put y'all back in chains." Biden and later Obama defended his remarks, saying they were taken out of context as he was referring to Wall Street.

(10,115 posts)that means no one would notice if you made any in chains references. The only reason Biden got into trouble is because Dems have diverse crowds. And, of course, Biden was taken out of context. I watched the speech and never thought oit had anything to do with his audience, but everything to do with what banks would like to do to all of us with no regs.

(28,552 posts)... his comments, in context, are exactly correct.

(28,498 posts)I thought he was right on the money! The GOP is determined to put us all "back in chains."
J. J. Rousseau: Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains
Voltaire: It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere
Warren Buffett: Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken
Karl Marx: The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Workingmen of all countries, unite!
Charles Dickens: We forge the chains we wear in life
Indra Devi: Freedom is living without chains.
It's a manufactured "crisis" to sell "news."

(24,396 posts)is that Biden is VP to an actual African-American President and that said African-American President, Barack Obama, knew EXACTLY what Biden was talking about and what he meant. Some African-Americans might actually be offended to know that most CEO's- or at their Republican subordinates in Congress- view themselves as being "shackled" and that the Republicans have said that they want to "unshackle" the CEOs to be able to go back to what they've been doing whatever they want- like they did under the Bush (mis-)administration.
BTW is anybody outside of the GOP and MSM offended about this? I think that they're trying to get people worked up but coming from a group that has pitched the dog whistles and grabbed a bullhorn during this election so far, I'm not sure Biden's comments- in their actual context (not the "lie" context)- are offensive. But what the hell do I know?

(13,390 posts)Joe's comments were made in an insider context that softened the criticism.
Coming from an outsider we would all be up in arms about it.
Byrd was forgiven for being a member of the Klan but Trent Lott was run out of congress for supporting Strom Thurmond.
IMO He's right, but could never admit that's the way it should be.

(44,071 posts)He is a disingenuous prick.
Even if he is "right", everything he says or does is to masquerade his own vile destructive agenda. There is nothing right about that.
He is not fit to even say the words "Joe Biden".

(13,390 posts)He is right on this one- and rightfully so.
The point he is probably incapable of grasping is that the reason he is right, is that the criticism would have been legitimate.
It's a stupid comment that I think people see through it.

(7,160 posts)The President of the United States because he knows his base is very racist VP Biden said nothing racist the GOP is racist to the core admitting to wanting this President to fail proves that to anyone with half a brain. The only reason they have gotten by with all they have is because of the President's skin color

(2,667 posts)but when Biden said it all we were seeing was truth from a man that no one in their right mind considers a racist. And that is the difference.

(14,180 posts)could never have claimed that banks wanted to put anyone back in chains, because Ryan is in thrall to those very banks.
Ryan attacks Obama's stimulus program (ARRA) and then ABC News reveals that Ryan's office actually asked for stimulus funds. Is Ryan criticized for this blatant hypocrisy?
Give me a fucking break, you whiny fucking crybaby. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
