(6,228 posts)Just yesterday, someone posted a list of 50 items where males have privileges over women and one of them was that if a man sleeps around he is cool and if a women does it, she is a slut. I would have guessed more people would have be surprised by this.

(22,336 posts)So it really doesn't dismiss the fact that women are judged harsher, maybe just that things are getting better on that front - that younger people are more fair as far as that goes.

(6,228 posts)I can say it was discussed a LOT more in college among my peers than it is in my mid-30's.

(3,220 posts)That blows any claim that this article tries to make out of the water.

(6,228 posts)I did not find that in this article, but the news report on the radio (that led me to search for this) mentioned that women were 50% more likely to be the ones judging.

(3,220 posts)But they hardly judge other men as harshly. As a whole, our society is massively biased towards finding the imperfections in women, and making them hate themselves for it.

(3,220 posts)"Man-whore" seems to be another playful term, mostly used by men against other men.

(25,699 posts)That men can't be "whores," thus the need to prefix it.

(3,220 posts)It is not a term that is used to try and illicit shame and embarrassment. Granted, "slut" might also be used as a playful term (but usually not). However, "Dog" is usually not used as an insult, and is certainly not as loaded in our society as the terms "slut" or "whore."

(3,220 posts)It wouldn't make sense to use it against a man.

(39,313 posts)Maybe due to Spanish where you will hear putos for men.

(63,221 posts)And it's called "Slut" or "Male Whore". Women talk about this all the time. We don't really want to be with some disease trap or someone who doesn't respect other individuals either. Sorry, but I have had these conversations with thousands of women and they think promiscuious men are pretty much as unattractive as men think promiscuious women are.

(3,220 posts)The term "slut" is used to slut-shame women into hating themselves because they happen to like sex. I've never heard of a man being ashamed, or their friends ditching them because the amount of women they slept with. It's unheard of in our culture, minus some extreme instances, I'm sure.
When people talk about the amount of women a man slept with, it's a humorous subject. Sometimes, the man is even envied. When it's reversed, the woman is some kind of dirty cretin that is sneered at and thought of as a piece of trash.

(8,317 posts)All of the friends I had over the years, none fit into that category.
Being a male "slut" was just as bad as being a female "slut."
