Magnitsky Act and The View
Anyone who watches The View likely saw that on today's show Meghan McCain try to take complete credit for the Magnitsky Act for her father and tried to claim that President Obama, who was President at the time the act was passed, had nothing to do with the act being passed. This came about as a result of there being a discussion about the fact that Donald Trump cancelled his meeting with Vladimir Putin. Some of the women were questioning the timing of the cancelling of the meeting. During that time, Sonny Hostin asked when had Donald Trump cared about the Ukraine. At that point Abby Huntsman became angry and the tried to defend Donald Trump by among other things claiming that Trump had done more to protect the Ukraine than President Obama. Hostin then brought up the Magnitsky Act and other Russian sanctions in an effort to try to defend the actions of Barack Obama regarding Russia. That is when Meghan stated that the Magnitsky Act was solely because of her father and President Obama had nothing to do with the act being passed.
It was crazy that Meghan tried to give all of the credit for the Magnitsky Act to her father. She did not even give Ben Cardin credit. Cardin was a Senate co-sponsor of the act. Also, I think we can give President Obama some credit in that he signed the act and did not oppose the act. Obama could have easily vetoed the act. Yes, Congress could have overturned his veto, but if Congress did not have the numbers to overturn a presidential veto the act would not have become law without President Obama.
