NEW ORLEANS -- Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee (D) is taking new steps toward a potential run for the White House, forming a federal political action committee to pay for his travel and laying out an agenda heavy on combating climate change that he hopes will help him stand out in a crowded Democratic primary field.
In an interview with The Hill, Inslee said he would formally decide whether to run before the Washington state legislative session ends in April.
"We'll make the decision at the right time. We are actively considering it, and that has been going well," Inslee said Saturday of a potential White House bid. He added that he is not yet an active candidate.
But he has begun trying to carve out a niche, one that implicitly differentiates himself from bigger-name contenders who are also eyeing a race.
"I'm not a senator, I'm a governor. Governors govern, and senators orate," Inslee said.

Seriously, experience brought to the job is a huge issue. Being governor in a state that vests broad authority and responsibility in its governor (not all do) is something the electorate in its wisdom has historically preferred. WA ranks about 14 in GDP, higher than many nations.
According to one of his staffers, one reason Obama was able to become only the third person directly elected president from the senate is that he was able to leap from being one of 100 legislators in a chamber designed to be slow and deliberative to CEO of a billion-dollar corporation.
Inslee has also served years in state legislature and then congress, so great. A stint as secretary of state or other major cabinet position would be nice, but okay. Reading briefly about his issues, I like him so far. Sounds like a good, responsible liberal progressive.

I liked the little I read about him. It's a damned shame that his teaming of government with business to train people to fill new jobs isn't a huge, "So what? All states do that." They don't any more, of course, and reading that gave me a pre-Reagonism Back to the Future moment.
But that's progress -- 12 steps forward, 9 steps back, another 11 forward...
