I know the military know its roles and protocols.

I have to wonder who organizes a State Funeral. Surely no one in this pathetic administration knows what to do. Anyone know who is in charge???

I also hope Melania does not pick out flowers, her taste is creepy.

It’s all they do.

I’m watching it now and I appreciate all the work that goes into the ceremonial stuff. They’re very good at maneuvering all those awkward moments like making sure the casket is always horizontal even when going up or down stairs, turning corners, and getting the casket on the slab.

George W looks sad.

There's a rule book for everything from seating to flowers to foreign guests, etc..

Sitting President usually puts everything into motion by telling people to get it done. Nothing more is required from a sitting president in that regard.

Also, the family decides whether to have the full state service or not.

The 3rd US Infantry (The Old Guard) is in charge of all official funerals in the National Capitol Region. There are Army regulations that describe exactly how a state funeral is conducted. And in reality they are not scrambling around trying to put things together - when a president leaves office he tells the Army what he wants; when he dies they just pull it out, fill in the dates and execute.

As to why Trump is pissed: Part of the procedure is a military parade. One hundred members from each of the five armed services (100 Army, 100 Navy, 100 Air Force, 100 Marine Corps and 100 Coast Guard) march in it. They fire cannon salutes at the ceremony. Each base that has cannons and enough powder to do it fires a salute that consists of one gun every 30 minutes from reveille to retreat, and a salute of one gun for each state, fired at five second intervals. And...none of it is for Donald Trump.

The army doesn't ask when a President leaves office. They ask when a President assumes office. Carter, Clinton, W Bush and Trump already have their funerals planned.

All can agree on one thing: the Gang That Can't Shoot Straight at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. is NOT involved in setting this up.
