https://apnews.com/96a295d90acf449dbf41f6fee4c28d63WASHINGTON (AP) The attorneys general of the District of Columbia and Maryland say theyre moving forward with subpoenas for records in their case accusing President Donald Trump of profiting off the presidency.
Subpoenas are expected to be sent out within hours of Mondays order from U.S. District Court Judge Peter J. Messitte approving the legal discovery schedule. Such information would likely provide the first clear picture of the finances of Trumps Washington, D.C., hotel.

What is obvious will take years to prove in court.
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

Shows how much I know!
Seems pretty straight-forward for the plaintiffs, just present the judge with the evidence and wait for the ruling.

Ever heard of Groklaw? SCO sued IBM, Novell, Red Hat, Daimler-Benz, AutoZone, Suse, and the world over UNIX copyrights they never owned. It took 7 years of litigation for a jury to finally say, nope, you never owned that.
The whole thing was based on this paragraph in a sales contract:
"All copyrights and trademarks, except for the copyrights and trademarks owned by Novell as of the date of the [Asset Purchase Agreement] required for [Santa Cruz] to exercise its rights with respect to the acquisition of UNIX and UnixWare technologies."

2 attorneys general to subpoena Trump Organization, Treasury
The attorneys general of the District of Columbia and Maryland plan to file subpoenas Tuesday seeking records from the Trump Organization, the Treasury Department and dozens of other entities as part of a lawsuit accusing Donald Trump of profiting off the presidency.
The flurry of subpoenas came a day after U.S. District Court Judge Peter J. Messitte approved a brisk schedule for discovery in the case alleging that foreign and domestic government spending at Trumps Washington, D.C., hotel amounts to gifts to the president in violation of the Constitutions emoluments clause.
The subpoenas target 37 entities, including 13 Trump-linked entities and the federal agency that oversees the lease for Trumps Washington hotel. Subpoenas were also being sent to the Department of Defense, General Services Administration, Department of Commerce and Department of Agriculture, all of which have spent taxpayer dollars at the hotel or have information on Trumps finances relevant to the case.
Other Trump entities that officials plan to subpoena include those related to his Washington hotel and its management. Eighteen private entities including restaurants, venues and hotels that compete with the Trump hotel are also being subpoenaed to illuminate the unfair nature of that competition, said Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh.
