Putin is smarter than any of the last few soviet leaders except maybe Gorbachev. And without the CCCP around their necks they are a lot more flexible.

The problem was never that the Russians were communist. The problem was that the communists were Russian

the increased tax burden and other costs to the populous, and apologized for ignoring the increased cost burden

Hopefully, that will put flames out.

Macron did acknowledge that it would definitely increase their deficit
