'Democracy Dies...in the Early Morning Light' as Wisconsin GOP Rams Through 'Lame Duck Legislative Coup'"Scott Walker may be on the way out of office for the first time in a quarter century, but his corrosive brand of politics lives on in his fellow Republicans."

"Democracy dies in darkness... or perhaps in the early morning light," wrote The Nation's John Nichols, a Wisconsin native, after the measure passed the state Senate and headed toward an Assembly vote, the final hurdle before the legislation reaches outgoing Republican Gov. Scott Walker's desk. The plan is expected to easily sail through the Assembly as early as Wednesday morning, and Walker has said he will sign it.

Yesterday, I said that violent protest isn't something the Left generally does.
I'm starting to wonder if it will end up being the only recourse.
That makes me sad and more than a little frightened at the realization that I have very little faith in our government left.

(11,726 posts)Unlike North Carolina courts which are still considered to be somewhat neutral, Wisconsin Courts were stuffed with a bunch of right wingers so any court challenges would likely go down in defeat. This is being seen as a coup that could last quite a long time. Despite Democrats in Wisconsin winning over 54% of the vote, the districts are so gerrymandered that Republicans picked up seats.
