If they DO NOT try to impeach RUMP? I'm thinking that AFTER the fact, then the RETHUGS could say why didn't the DEM house go for impeachment? Any thoughts on this?

The Senate will hold sham hearings when the House holds hearings. IMHO

(16,906 posts)Just using this as an excuse. They could say we wanted to convict him but the house didn't do their job. (AFTER THE FACT) I could really see them saying this.

(58,785 posts)they'll definitely do that. Everything's our fault, after all. All their dirty deeds are really ours, their despicable failures of duty are ours, their corruption and even treason, ours. Or perhaps especially.
Don't worry about it.

(16,906 posts)I won't worry for sure BUT i can really see them doing this!!

(33,328 posts)GOPers gonna blame Dems no matter what. We don't need to do things to please them, because the only thing that would is self-destruction.
Do it right and do it in the open.

(58,785 posts)realize they do have goals in common and show willingness to work with us.
The midterms show some conservatives are waking up and discovering their leaders are not the good guys. Overall, the Republicans lost their suburban majority -- it's ours now! Even rural voters are less red; some of them have shifted and turned on those who've taken over their party.

(33,328 posts)The "them" I was referencing were the RWNJs that have taken over that party. I'm not sure there is a decent conservative left in office, especially the Senate. See Kavanaugh.

(33,328 posts)There once were conservatives and Republicans who were unwilling to undermine the foundation of the country in order to install themselves in power. The current crop think they are entitled and so have convinced themselves that, for the good of the country, they will destroy it to keep power.

(58,785 posts)We've also seen that it's easy to overestimate what it takes to be among the Republican power elite. In addition to some cold-eyed amoral types who like power too much, there are no doubt many hypocritical fools who chose to believe the propaganda they've been drenching their voters in.
Remembering Kavanaugh ranting about the giant left-wing conspiracy masterminded by the Clintons, clearly expecting the world to hear and believe. The nation heard at least.
Hermit-The-Prog
(33,328 posts)That was a surreal display. Either he's so immersed in the propaganda that he can't separate it from reality, or, perhaps, he was calling on the cultists to make some noise on his behalf.
I don't know how that cult bubble can be broken. There are trumpers all around me and neither logic, reason, nor news gets through.
The last Republican I voted for was a local man who was so good at his job (county level), constituents dragged him back out of retirement twice. The last time I saw an R at the national level worth considering was before Nixon.

(58,785 posts)Boy, same here about getting through to bubble dwellers, not going to happen. Also those who aren't but for whom partisan loyalty is like massive calcification in their spines, they are unmovable to people outside their tribe. This is a very deep red county.
But for all the many who lined up to do battle in response to Kavanaugh, the midterms results suggest something else was happening also. I can only guess but suspect that it was an eyeopener, for a minority anyway, to realize that their extremist whackadoodles aren't just living next door but are now actually in the senate and Supreme Court.
Something is happening in any case. What they've all really been voting for is getting through to some. Which is why I smile when some congressman calls for life in prison and even the death penalty for women who have an abortion. Or Scott Walker and his fellow fascist sympathizers in WI try to eliminate funding for most liberal arts classes and change the mission of state colleges to produce graduates to meet the needs of business. Keep it up, guys.

(16,906 posts)They can make comments to MSM putting blame on DEMS. My thoughts here. We know they will.

(10,437 posts)behind closed doors, the despicable acts of trump and GOP will be put in front of the American people, unfiltered by the media.
Pelosi has to be tactical on this. It's her one and only chance.

(42,694 posts)I doubt that they'd suddenly claim to have been concerned after the fact.
There are any number of things to worry about. I don't think this is one of them.

(4,828 posts)McConnell is playing a game. Will not pass a bill to protect Mueller out of fear of alienating Trump supporters. Part of me thinks he is baiting Trump. Trump is a useful tool to help GOP get control of the courts and as much trickle down tax cuts as possible.
At some point they will decide whether tolerating Trump is worth it. The easiest way to defend themselves in the 2020 Senate race is to say that had the House impeached Trump they would have done their duty and conduct the trial. They will also say they did not speak out about this sooner to avoid prejudicing a trial.
