MSNBCs Morning Joe called on Frank Figluzzi to come in and help explain the memo. Figluzzi was formerly an Assistant Director for Counterintelligence at the FBI and is familiar with Robert Muellers methods.
<snip>
Figluzzi said, We saw lots of redaction. You do that in the FBI either when you have classified information or you are at such a sensitivity level that you cannot expose it.
Figluzzi also felt the light sentence and amount of redactions meant the investigation was aiming for convictions at the highest levels. He continued, I think, in fact, that underneath these redactions, if we were to lift these black magic marker points out, we would see people with the last name Trump or Kushner.
Finally, Figluzzi ended the segment with a bombshell suggestion; Flynn may have worn a wire. He told the panel, We see reference here to quick cooperation by Flynn. What does that mean? Did it happen in what we call the golden hour, where you could even wire somebody up and have him share communications in real time? - HillReporter.com

(10,122 posts)Why now? They might need him to testify. They might need him for future help when they get into the cases - like Gates was needed for the Manafort trial (not just for testimony).
This plea deal addresses one charge of lying to law enforcement. He was taking money from the Russians and Turkey, etc. He was undercutting Obama's sanctions. etc. The memo doesn't get into that.
The answer likely is: they could get Flynn on something else. The redacted lines tend to back that up roughly. Those redacted lines suggest multiple other people got fingered, there is a lot more crap to come - other things they are looking at and Flynn has been very useful because he had a front row seat and was involved to some extent in this stuff.
Trump would know that. It's partly why he pressed Comey to lay off Flynn and then fired Comey when Comey wouldn't let up on Flynn. Comey was getting too close.
This is starting to make more sense to me. I suspect Trump and his cabal are more worried than they were yesterday.
If Mueller has found crimes against the country, like espionage or treason, how is Whittaker going to look if he gets in the way of that and fires Mueller? He can't hide any more because some of it is in the Flynn sentencing memo that belongs to the court now.
More than ever, I think Trump & Co are in real trouble and they're way out of their league against Mueller.

(51,569 posts)Even if he is fired a lot of necessary and incriminating stuff is still in that memo.

(10,122 posts)blanket immunity. Maybe I missed something. But I doubt it because when they cut the deal with him, it was a year ago or more - they were still trying to figure out what went on. They wouldn't know all the crimes back then.
I didn't hear what I said in my prior post today. It just came to me when I was thinking about it - trying to figure out why they bothered to do this now.
Part of it is that Trump has had most of the narrative. Mueller hasn't said a thing except through these filings/arrests. This effort with Flynn, Cohen and Manafort get the fruits of Mueller's efforts back into the public consciousness with a key difference: Mueller is dealing with criminal facts. Trump is presenting mostly lies and BS in response.
BigmanPigman
(51,569 posts)and he mentioned Pence along with Kushner as lying to the public about Flynn just now on MSNBC. Mueller had to wait until after the midterms and for tRump to finish answering his questions in writing. I really do believe Pence, Kushner and Don Jr are going down big time now. I hardly ever hear Pence mentioned so this is meaningful.

the transition team - roughly a year ago.
She nailed them on lying.
I don't know if this is her best on that subject. But it is one of a series she did digging into Pence and the transition team

Nobody is saying anything to Manafort that is recordable, at this point. But the statement does send a signal to tRump & co about what Mueller may have done already. What Mueller defines as standard cooperation agreement language and behavior.
