Rep. Louie Gohmert on Fox Business: 'George Soros is Supposed to Be Jewish But You Wouldn't Know It'

Louie Gohmert (R-TX) went on a tear against George Soros on Thursday by questioning whether the billionaire philanthropist is actually Jewish.

The Fox Business host had the congressman on his show to talk about how Google is supposedly planning to develop a censored version of itself to be used in China. Gohmert agreed with an op-ed Varney wrote about the project’s Orwellian connotations, but for some reason, he decided to turn the conversation towards Soros and the horrible things he has supposedly done to Israel.

“You mentioned Orwell. It reminds me of another George, George Soros, because Google is born in a free country and then the go over and oppress others in other countries. George Soros is supposed to be Jewish but you wouldn’t know it from the damage he inflicted on Israel and the fact that he turned on fellow Jews and helped take the property that they owned.”

Instead of pushing back or asking Gohmert to elaborate in that moment, Varney quickly pivoted to a question about Google CEO Sundar Pichai — who will soon face questions from the House Judiciary Committee.

Later in the show, Varney addressed the tangent by saying “In the last hour, one our guests, Congressman Louie Gohmert, for some reason went out of his way to bring up George Soros and made unsubstantiated and false allegations against him. I want to make clear those views are not shared by me, this program or anyone at Fox Business.”

4. Why would anyone expect Varney to confront Gohmert?

Varney would risk the possibility that Gohmert wouldn't come on his show anymore, and who could possibly replace Louie's special mix of ignorance, stupidity, vileness, and prejudice? Dumbasses like Gohmert may grow on barstools, but they don't grow on trees and not many of them get elected to Congress. Such a rare and valuable commodity has to be handled gently.
