The Cat Is Out Of The Bag On Medicare And Social Security - It Will All Be Dissolved

I was listening to the Ed show on talk radio today. I am not sure what campaign came up but a GOPPER who is running for the house apparently commented that the GOP ploy on vouchers and privatization is a "wedge issue" they planned to divide the older and younger generation.

The voucher plan with the 55 year old limit was meant to create resentment and anger and start a generational war. That war would guarantee the dissolving of Medicare and Social Security for everyone including people now on both programs. So the present Ryan proposal is just the "first step" in that process.

The strategy is that the younger generation will resent the fact that they will not get the benefits they were promised. They would vote for Republicans who would then be calling for Medicare and Social Security to be immediately dissolved. There would be two reasons. One would be that "juniors" did not want it to continue because they would be of the belief that they were not going to get benefits they had paid for and were going to pay for. The second would be we can no longer afford it because by then the debt would be over $20 trillion. And yes they plan to run the debt up for this reason. It is part of the "greedy seniors" meme.

R$R, the GOP, our billionaires, and big business really just want to stop all the checks cold. They have to do it in a way that they will not suffer politically.

It is important that one take all the rhetoric over time and add up what it means in the end. The GOP and complicit media is very good at scattering the memes all over the map. Only the most astute who are able to follow all the chatter and verbal clutter can put the very complex puzzle together.

What I have said here may seem like a stretch, but I firmly believe I am correct. I have followed these blowhards for many years. They are determined to cut loose the older generation and take away the benefits they were promised. The funds taken from these programs will be either put in a military budget or given as tax breaks for the uber riche.

Just ask yourself in a logical manner, where will all the money come from with huge huge reductions in taxes on the rich? Cuts or the end in domestic spending will never never cover the budget gap. There is no where else to go except to steal Social Security money and Medicare money.

In the end where does that leave grandma and grandpa. In your house or home.

Remember think through ALL of the rhetoric coming from R$R, the GOP at every level, billionaires and big business.

And this isn't complex or particularly subtle. Both parties are throwing everything including the kitchen sink at "entitlements" in order to keep the tax in place and funnel the money elsewhere.

Carlin and others warned us years ago, and a lot of people didn't listen. "They're coming for your social security!"

Cutting the "defense" budget by 40-50% would go a long way towards addressing long-term financial issues. Cutting corporate welfare would make another small but significant step in the right direction. Shall we also talk about single-payer and making the plutocrats (who deserve to be plopped into tumbrels and escorted to the National Razor) pay income and estate taxes?

There are many, many ways to address the long-term budget issues. Not a one of which seems to be on the table.

All the rulers can think of is taking our money from our social security trust fund that was separately funded for our retirement and health care...to give more to themselves, bankers and war profiteers.

We have to shame them with their own arrogance and greed, make it so obvious that the curtain comes down for good as they stand naked for all to see.

Kinda like the Republican party is doing to themselves right now hehe...

They can target a lot of individuals with robo calls and just lie. They are trying to create and atmosphere of hysteria among seniors many of whom are alone and have little access to the facts.

And it's the 40+ that will suffer the most from losing Medicare and SS. Also, young people don't support the Republican's social agenda on Gay rights and immigration.

Finally, most young people will be of Latino descent, and they're not opposed to domestic spending.

Many young people and not so young people have grandparents and parents that are on Medicare and Social Security. They know that if those relatives didn't have those programs they would have to support them and pay for their medical bills. My father turned sixty five when I was nineteen years old. I had to quit college t go to work to help my mother with his medical bills. Medicare came into law a few years later and took a huge burden from us. I have been very aware from that young age how important all those safety net programs are. I'm sure a majority of young and middle aged people are also aware of it.

8. That's The Way It Was In My Dad's Era
Fri Aug 17, 2012, 06:08 PM
Aug 2012

My dad's father died when he was 12 years old. He had to quit school and find a way to help support the family. By the time he was 16 he found a job at a shoe company. He worked there for over 50 years. My mother worked in the same factory for over 40 years. That company eventually went overseas by the late 1970's.

That was the way it was for a lot of families before Roosevelt. Social Security was started to take care of the widow's of dead workers. It became the program that it is today over time.

As for Medicaid, I posted recently that moving it to the states and block granting it will give the states free reign to go for the assets of the children of parents on Medicaid for long term care. Very few Americans understand that before the Medicaid mandate, states could force the children or families of those in nursing homes to pay if they were on Medicaid. My mother's sisters had to help pay for my grandmother's nursing home care in the 1960's.

The devil is in the details and R$R and the GOP will not reveal this part of their Medicaid plan. I know that what I am saying is correct because Newt and the GOP had Medicaid going to the states until Clinton vetoed their budget. That is one reason why they hated him so much and impeached him.

That's odd, especially seeing how I have actually read the Dem Party platform and seem to agree with pretty much all of it. Sure, there are parts that I am more extreme about, like abortion, and others where I'm not, but overall I feel pretty confident that I "qualify" to be considered a Democrat by the majority of people. Therein lies the problem, eh? The majority on DU are not representative of the majority of Democrats. Most of us understand and respect differing beliefs amongst those of us in the Party.

I could be all wrong though. Maybe you could tell me what parts of the platform I am not in compliance with?

Sorry, I don't see this happening. Far more likely is that both old and young people alike will say, "Wait a minute, why the fuck are we spending a Trillion Dollars on the military, or $60 Billion a year to throw cancer grannies in prison for smoking pot?"

Medicare and Social Security remain immensely popular programs. They had their big chance to torpedo SS in 2004 at the start of Bush's 2nd term. He learned fast that his "mandate" didn't go nearly that far.

Best way to save SS/Medicare is ensure Rmoney stays well the hell away from the Oval Office. I have no doubt that they would like to do away with SS/Medicare, but the voters are firmly against it.

I don't think they will dissolve it. There's too much $$ for them to give it up, and it's far easier to 'trick' people.

They WILL come up with new ways to pretend to 'fix' it - probably by 'privatizing' it somehow. This will simply maintain the cash inflow for rich tax cuts etc all the while continuing to screw us over.

The big WIN for the corporations and the rich is to LEGISLATE a mandatory plan then steal it (the $$) from us.
