Illinois Boy Learns "A Christmas Story" lesson on frozen poles is true

SANDWICH, Illinois — After 35 years, the hard lesson of Flick still has its doubters.

An 11-year-old Illinois boy recently decided to test whether his tongue would stick to a frozen pole, inspired by Flick in the famous scene with a flagpole from “A Christmas Story," the popular 1983 holiday movie that was partially filmed in Cleveland.

The verdict: Yes, it does.

According to the Beacon News, Spencer Cline and his buddy, Cole Leeper, 12, were heading to a sledding hill when they passed a metal pole by a fence. Cline was skeptical his tongue would stick, so he gave it a shot, even without a “triple dog dare” breach of etiquette from Leeper.

“Cole thought at first I was messing with him,” Spencer tells the Beacon News. “I told him no, it’s really stuck, but he at first couldn’t understand what I was saying.”

When Leeper realized his friend was really stuck, he went to a nearby house to get Spencer some help.
